Edge Products has been around for a long time and they’ve honed their skills in on their latest product: the Insight CTS3 digital monitor. If you enjoyed the CTS, CTS2, or anything else they’ve offered in the past, you’re going to love this CTS3. They’ve taken all of the great features all of the old products have had and mixed them with new, groundbreaking features.

Regardless of the application, Edge’s Insight CTS3 (PN: 84130-3) will have you covered. Whether you’re street driving, sled pulling, or drag racing, this monitor will give you virtually every value of data you want. Important factors like transmission temperature, exhaust gas temperature, fuel pressure, and boost pressure are here. Also new is the backup camera function (coming as soon as Edge releases a camera adapter). The CTS3 has it all.

Talking To The Experts

We caught up with Edge’s Brand Manager, Jared Venz, to get the scoop on a few different questions about these units.

Diesel Army: I see the backup camera tech has been released. What is next? Do you foresee any other options to come for the CTS3?

Jared Venz: With the release of the Insight CTS3, there are features that we left off the initial release in order to get this product to market. Now that it has been released, we’ll bring all the other CTS2 features back, including our Evolution CTS3 and the Juice with Attitude CTS3. This is our top priority at the moment. Once we have the full line up and running, there are even more features we can add to the all-new CTS3 products. Plus, we’re redesigning other products, like our Amp’d Throttle Booster to give users even more control of their vehicles.

DA: How has the release of the CTS3 been? Do they seem to be flying off of the shelves?

JV: The Insight CTS3 has been one of the largest releases in Edge’s history. With the overwhelming popularity of the Insight CTS2, the Insight CTS3 added features that customers have been asking for. When they saw the new screen with these new features, it was a home run from the start.

DA: After three CTS monitors, how do you continue coming up with new tech and new ideas?

JV: With the overall development team, here at Edge, we are always playing with new ideas.  We have already started to plan our next generation of products that take new technology and uses it in ways that the diesel industry hasn’t seen. Product development is one focus we want to lead in the aftermarket performance industry.

What Has Changed?

Edge impresses with every piece that comes out of their shop. Many truck owners wanted to switch tuning on the fly. Well, the new CTS3 can. Tabbing over to the tuning spot of the monitor allows users to make changes. After unboxing mine, I can see why Edge is making a splash with the CTS3.

The screen is considerably larger and thinner. As someone who wants to have a sleek-looking interior that doesn’t look cluttered, I was thrilled with the new design. What else did I want? I wanted faster boot-up times. I immediately noticed the power-up time was considerably faster. Not that the older CTS2 was slow, but once key-on power was applied, this screen fired right up. It wasted no time letting you know what was going on. Edge said the CTS2 powered up in 15 seconds, whereas the CTS3 now does it in 2 seconds.

The third-generation CTS is faster, slimmer, smoother, more advanced, and Wi-Fi compatible. In addition to the new slim case design, the Insight CTS3 now offers a five-inch, full-color touchscreen display, making their gauges some of the sleekest in the industry. What’s more, they didn’t just stop at making the display better. They also added an all-new, high-speed processor that provides easy swipe gestures and navigation throughout the product, resulting in effortless user experience.

Can’t decide which gauge layout you like? You have plenty of options to choose from.

I love the feel of the new screen and was able to tab through all of my settings easily and make my adjustments to my liking. On the installation side of things, it doesn’t get any easier. You take your power plug and make your connection at the OBD-II port. There is no wiring required. I realize the majority of you have or are into diesel trucks but the support these monitors have doesn’t stop at trucks.

This monitor is compatible with most domestic gas and diesel vehicles from 1996 and up. I’ve paired Project TowBoat with a CTS3 monitor as well, which works perfectly with the accessories the truck has. Using the integrated accessory system that is built in, you can control them using the monitor. Maybe you have lighting, compressors, or a winch? Now, it’s all at your fingertips.

When it comes time to update your monitor, you can do it right there at the screen with a Wi-Fi connection. No more plugging it up to the computer. Edge is making it as user-friendly as possible.

You can choose between twenty multiple custom gauge screens to monitor your important parameters. With the new screen, this device allows you to monitor 10 parameters at once. Like I mentioned earlier, with the new scrolling option, you can swipe from screen to screen at any given time, which makes it very convenient.

In my case, as someone who already has a highly-modified truck and can’t change tuning on the fly (2004.5 ECM), I still find functionality in swiping page to page. This helps me monitor everything I need before and after a pass down the strip. Not that I would let off in a race anyway, but the features allow me to set alarms and warnings letting me know the data is going past what I want.

Like the older model, the CTS3 can read codes and clear them, too. Unfortunately, it looks like I’m experiencing an issue on my Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor circuit. That is going to be something to look into. Luckily for me, it was caught because of this unit.

Edge has raised the bar again with the innovative features in the CTS3 screen that are not found in similar tuners and monitors. Although the size of the CTS3 versus the CTS2 is the same, what’s inside is quite different. There are now over 100 parameters to choose from, over 15 available screens to choose from, an all-new capacitive touch screen, and all displayed in 720p high definition. As you can see below, they’ve packaged the CTS3 full of features for a cheaper price than you can get the CTS2 for.
