Ultimate Carnage Challenge: Day 2 of UCC Finished With A Bang

We’re now looking at Day 2 of the Ultimate Callout Challenge in Indy where the trucks have already started the gauntlet challenge. Yesterday it was Tony and Tyler Burkhard’s day to shine as they clipped the competition with the fastest pass of the day. With the standings in, one of the most anticipated events of this show was next. The dyno.

The dyno is a crucial part of the event as it awards quite a bit of points to your score. It seems as if the points breakdown gets more and more generous as the event goes on but the abuse gets worse and worse too. This is a game of survival. You need to be consistent. So, let’s hop on the rollers and see who can come out on top of day 2.

If you missed our Day 1 coverage, you can check it out here. Just to refresh your memory if you did, the standings are as follows.

Ready, Get Set, Pin It!

After Day 1, teams either converted their truck over to a more powerful setup for the dyno, or left it as is with a different tire on the back to handle the heat of the dyno. With our podium runners running early, the crowd was in for a treat early. Up first on the dyno was Tony Burkard. If you remember last years UCC event, Last Minute Hooker turned into One Hot Hooker.

As terrifying as it was, Burkhard wasn’t scared to hit it again and wanted to put on a show. With a slight lead over the field, they needed to put up a number to maintain that lead. After a loud 2,104.7-horsepower and 2,360.6-torque pull, that set the stage for the rest of the competitors. After seeing this number that early, it was clear that you’re going to have to make 2,000-horsepower plus to be in the running to end the day.

Up next was Turba Tom Borrell. Borrell’s garage-built truck with a sweet Freedom Racing Engine’s powerplant inside churned out 2,090.7-horsepower and 2,789.7-lb/ft of torque. This placed him right up there in the standings but event leaders still had to run. A total of 16 more competitors had their chance on the dyno and while a pile of them made north of 2,o00-horsepower, there can only be three guys on the podium.

Utah native Trevor Peterson in his Industrial Injection-backed T-Pain truck made 2,264-horsepower and 3,203.1-lb/ft of torque placing him third in the dyno competition. Just ahead of him was Justin Andres who stopped the meter at 2,220-horsepower and 3,404-lb/ft of torque. Just after Andres was my pick for the event Chris Buhidar. Texas’ own put down the most horsepower out of the entire field. Unfortunately, the torque number wasn’t there and that didn’t quite give him the crown for the day.

The person to take home the crown for the highest horsepower and torque number was second place overall heading into this, Justin Zeigler. Zeigler’s wrapped Ram was a crowd favorite and with the help of some of the biggest names of the industry, he finished the day with a victory. This compound turbocharged machine made a 2,443-horsepower and 3,282-lb/ft of torque. With this pass, even though he was behind Andres on the torque, this kept his lead going for the day.

Power Driven Diesel’s Quest For 3k

It is no secret that these guys out of Utah put everything on the line. They do whatever it takes to make a number and if that means explosive carnage, so be it. With Zeigler leading the pack, Todd Welch and the Power Driven Diesel crew made their way to the dyno. The track was buzzing all day about what these guys would do and while they didn’t make the number they wanted, they still made everyone go wow.

Once on the dyno, the truck was making a hard pull north of 2000 horsepower when the engine slit around the camshaft and main bearings laying down a whopping 2369 horsepower and 3040ft-lbs of torque. This engine failure was heard all over the internet within seconds as it sent hot shrapnel into the air and even into the stands. Luckily everyone was okay. I see a rule change in the future of this competition as we cannot keep throwing parts into the sky. No matter how cool it is. Someone could get hurt, you know?

As you can see, it was pretty spectacular.

After Day 2, the standings are as follows.
