Reader’s Rig: Sergio Cueto’s 1960 Ford F-850

Every now and again I come across a truck that demands I take a closer look. While walking around the Florida Truck Meet in April, I saw Sergio Cueto’s 1960 F-850 Ford driving through the infield of Homestead-Miami Speedway. It demanded I take a closer look, but I had to find it first. Once Sergio finally parked and I was able to talk to him, I learned he did all the work on this cool rig himself.

Ford F-850

Definitely not what designers envisioned in 1960.

At first glance, it is easy to see that Sergio has done an impressive job customizing his Ford F-850. He started by placing the cab and bed on a 1999 Ram 3500 chassis, and by doing this, he was able to update the truck’s performance and functionality. Not only that, but the performance of the included 24-valve Cummins was sure to be better than any engine that was available in 1960. The Cummins 24-valve engine has the benefit of a few modifications like head studs and compound turbos.

If you’re a fan of the way a weathered or patinaed paint job looks, then you are probably drooling over Sergio’s painting skills as they are definitely top-notch. He started by covering the sheetmetal with a coat of black and then added a faded, worn look to the red paint he laid over that, giving the truck a unique and aged appearance.

As good as the exterior looks, the interior is a creation that commands you get comfortable. Sergio makes a living by creating custom marine interiors, so it stands to reason that the Ford F-850 has a truly custom design. Using the front seat and gauge cluster from the ’99 Dodge and hand-building the interior further showcase Sergio’s attention to detail and dedication to making this truck his own. The front seats have been extensively modified and then the custom rear seat and all interior panels were covered with a baby-smooth leather.

The 24-inch Alcoa wheels add a nice touch of style to the truck, and the custom bed floor with a painted flag design shows off Sergio’s attention to detail. Overall, it seems like Sergio has created a one-of-a-kind vehicle that combines classic style with modern performance and functionality.
