Truck maintenance used to be much easier than it is today. Years ago, we checked/changed fluids and greased things. Now, trucks have gotten more complex, and so has the maintenance regimen. Way back in 2007, it was mandated that all road-going diesel pickups conform to a set of EPA Emission-reduction guidelines. This meant more equipment on trucks that needed to be maintained. What I am referring to is the much-maligned diesel particulate filters (DPF). The year 2007 is one that all diesel truck owners remember, because that is when diesel particulate filters became mandatory through the EPA in order to help trap soot emissions and NOx. The only job of the DPF is to trap the two pollutants and periodically clean itself through regeneration. however, things don’t always work as they should.
When the DPF collects the noxious soot and other pollutants, it becomes clogged. The regeneration (cleaning) process is done by injecting diesel fuel into the engine while the piston is at the bottom of its stroke. This fuel is then pushed out the exhaust valve and into the DPF where an extreme amount of heat is developed that burns the trapped ash in the DPF. While this “cleaning process” makes it sound as if the filter should be a completely self-sustaining system, that really isn’t the case. Even with the regeneration process developed by the OE’s these cleaning cycles never seem to get the DPF completely clean.
If the OE process is not complete, what happens if a truck owner adds custom tuning? This tuning can result in extra ash being deposited in the DPF and regeneration can only get things so clean. Sometimes, these filters need to be cleaned more extensively. This is where the Liqui Moly DPF Cleaning System comes into play.
Liqui-Moly Pro-Line Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner is available at all Liqui Moly Pro Line shops and this cleaning process allows technicians to clean the blocked DPF filter without removing it. The cleaner frees up clogged particulate filters without removal by way of a simple pressurized spray probe that is inserted into the DPF by way of a sensor opening. Once the cleaner is sprayed into the filter, it dissolves all of the deposits in the DFP.
After approximately 10 minutes, a bottle of Pro-Line Purge is sprayed into the Diesel Particulate Filter, disturbing all the deposits. Once that is done, the last step is to use a scanner to do a manual regen to complete the cleaning process. This Liqui Moly Pro Line solution is designed to help truck owners maintain their trucks and keep costs down since the DPF is cleaned and not replaced.
