The frustration of buying a brand-new diesel truck only to find its computer is completely locked down is a modern reality for many enthusiasts. With custom tuning currently impossible on the 2025 Ram, Lavon Miller of Firepunk Diesel recently tested a throwback solution to this new-age problem: the simple, plug-and-play Edge EZ Module.
The Challenge of the 2025 Cummins ECM
For years, the go-to for more power has been a custom calibration loaded directly into the truck’s computer. However, that’s not yet an option for the newest Rams. “Cumins has done a very good job of locking this ECM down,” Lavon explained. He noted the new complexity, stating, “It has a separate Bosch FICM inside the Cumins module,” which prevents tuners from accessing all the necessary parameters for a full custom tune. This roadblock has created an opportunity for devices that work by intercepting and modifying sensor signals rather than rewriting the ECM’s programming.
Three Plugs and a Smartphone
The Edge EZ module harkens back to an era of simpler modifications. The installation is incredibly straightforward, consisting of just three simple connections under the hood: one to the rail pressure sensor, one to the data link connector, and a ground wire to the battery post. There are no wires to run into the cab. Instead of a physical switch, the entire EZ Module is controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth with a smartphone app. The app allows the driver to switch between power levels on the fly and also handles any over-the-air firmware updates from Edge.
Putting the Edge EZ Module to the Test
After the quick installation, Lavon strapped his 10,000-mile 2025 Ram to the dyno. The initial beta software featured a top setting of +75 horsepower, and the results were accurate. “Yesterday we gained 77 horsepower,” he confirmed. In a surprising turn, Edge sent a software update overnight with a new, more aggressive +110 horsepower level. The next day, the results were even better. “Well, that did 115 horsepower gain. Did a peak of 540 horsepower in the truck,” Lavon announced.
The Verdict on Plug-and-Play Power
Lavon noted that the module makes its power primarily by increasing fuel rail pressure, and that the highest power level wasn’t quite as smooth as a full custom tune. However, the overall impression was overwhelmingly positive. For a simple module that installs in minutes, the gains were undeniable. “Still very impressive. Pick up 115 horsepower with a 5minute plug-and-play device,” he concluded. For 2025 Ram owners waiting for full tuning to become available, the EZ Module offers a powerful and effective way to get a performance boost right now.
