The Sled Dog has gone through 4 iterations over the years. We couldn’t find any information on the original tractor, but the second tractor was a single engine 38.8 Liter V12. The engine was originally in a T55 tank believe it or not.
With the desire for more power and performance, the team decided to build their third iteration after the ’08 pulling season. The new tractor was going to be a twin engine tractor. They had such good luck with the original Transmash V12 engine, that they decided two of them was the way to go for the new tractor.
The engines are fed with 2 Holset HC5A turbochargers (each) and are fueled by a Bosch injection pump off of a Mercedes Benz V12. To get the two engines to work together, a custom crossbox and gear box was fabricated by Kurt Ostergaard “Bull Power”. Holding the power, is a Scania ZF hub.
This combination proved to be good and competitive as they were a regular top finisher in their class. The first year they placed on the podium multiple times and over the past few years they have qualified for the European Championships.
But as with all good things, they must be improved upon. So, after the 2012 season ended, the 4th iteration of the Sled Dog was born. This time, instead of building a completely new tractor, they figured it would be better to add a third engine. Unlike what most people do, they opted to run an engine that uses a different fuel; alcohol to be more precise.
They added a blown alcohol motor to the front of the 3rd generation and from what we have seen watching a few videos it has proven to be a killer combination.
While the Sled Dog’s website isn’t the most up to date site, there is some interesting information if you can read Danish.
