Pulling is a family affair for most of us. Really, any type of hobby that can consume not only huge amounts of money but time, ends up being a family affair. Without the support of everyone, hobbies like these end up tearing families apart.
Certainly, with Clint Metting’s family, his pulling passion is shared by all. As a family, they have built and put together an extremely competitive tractor. As last year’s points champion with the Texas Truck and Tractor Pulling Association (TTTPA), Metting has to constantly up his game to say ahead.
His John Deere 4155 is running a 466 cubic inch engine which has been worked just a little…wink, wink. The engine features REI pistons, but stock rods and crank. To help the engine breathe a little better, Metting did opt to use a REI custom camshaft with their pushrods, springs and rockers as well. The head was, also, sent off and ported.
The Hot Farm class is limited on turbocharger, so Metting runs a 3×3 turbo but does utilize dual feed injectors to make the most of the air he does have. Metting estimates that he is producing roughly 1200 horsepower at 3,500 rpms.
Behind the engine, is an Atlas 4 disc clutch connected to a 3 speed transmission built by Engler Machine and Tool. Engler, also, built the full tube chassis for Metting out of DOM tubing.
The Deere runs on 24.5-32 Firestone Puller 2,000 tires in the rear and 7.5-15 up front.
Paul’s Paint and Body, out of Seguin, Texas, painted the tractor its iconic John Deere Green.
Metting is planning on doing a few pulls with the Outlaw pulling association next year and hopes his success continues. No matter where he is pulling, you can bet this is one Frogg that means business.
