Waylon Aldrich’s Custom ’09 Peterbilt 389

Recently, we were at the NHRDA World Finals and ran across Waylon Aldrich’s 2009 389 Peterbilt. This beautiful working truck is a real eye turner and we had to find out more.

IMG_1332Aldrich dropped his rig off at ACW Specialties located in San Antonio, Texas. Once the rig was there, they started to work their magic. They stripped the truck down and built custom body panels under the sleeper to clean up the lines and fill in the large gap between the frame and the body. While working around the cab, they went ahead and added a custom visor to keep the sun out of Aldrich’s eyes while giving the truck a more aggressive look.

Out back, ACW fabricated a deck plate to clean up the lines and fill in the gaps between the frame rails. Then to really set the truck off, custom fiberglass fenders were added in the rear.

Once the body work was completed, they blew everything apart and did the custom paint job. It brought a little bit of retro, a little bit of new coupled with a whole lot of style.

As everything was put back together, they added a bunch of cab and sleeper lights to add more of that “cool factor!” The last exterior change Aldrich opted for was to swap out the stack with a set of smooth 8” chrome stacks.

Now looking at this truck, you might not think this is a working truck; but it is. Aldrich puts almost 80,000 miles a year on his rig and isn’t planning on changing anything anytime soon. So, under the hood, not much has been done. Thanks to emission regulations, the 500 horsepower Cummins ISX is still providing the power to haul the loads anywhere Aldrich needs to go.

In the cab, Aldrich spent a little time and added a bunch of chrome! The Outlaw Customs Twisted Sick Shifter with a United Pacific Chrome Piston Gearshift Knob really sets the stage for the interior. The gauges have all chrome bezels and there are tons of little touches like swapping out the air controls out with 6 shooter pulls.

To keep Aldrich comfortable, the seats were upgraded to a set of Legacy SILVER seats. Aldrich loves his truck and really enjoys having some fun drag racing/showing it on the weekends. But, he would ultimately like to go a little faster; so, he is looking to pick up a pre-2007 Peterbilt to really start having some fun!

What do you guys think?
