If you were color blind — or blind in general — how would someone describe color to you? What’s the difference between black, blue, green, and brown? These are probably questions you have never thought about, but if you had to answer, you would probably come to the conclusion that colors can be associated with temperature. Blue is cold and red is hot. Color blind or not, it’s easy to see that Chris Novak’s fourth gen Ram 2500 Laramie is extremely hot!
Shortly after the truck was purchased new in 2013, it was taken to Extreme Offroad and Performance in Katy, Texas. If you don’t know who they are, start looking at the covers of most truck magazines. Extreme Offroad Performance is well known for building cover-worthy trucks because of their attention to detail and top-notch craftsmanship.
With the truck fresh off the showroom floor, Extreme Offroad and Performance didn’t need to spend any time cleaning and prepping it. They went straight to work installing an 8- to 10-inch adjustable Kelderman air suspension lift kit. This kit removes the factory coil springs and leaf springs. To keep the axles pointed in the right direction, the Kelderman kit uses a four-link setup in the front and rear with a panhard bar to locate the axle horizontally.
Controlling the air suspension under the fourth gen Ram is done with an Accuair e-LEVEL controller with a touchpad. The system has three unique height settings, and Novak has complete control over each bag, individually. To give the truck a soft ride, remote-reservoir shocks by Kelderman were, also, installed. A major concern with a truck this high in the air is the potential for rollovers. The kit uses a well-engineered sway bar setup that still allows for a lot of wheel/axle travel.
To keep with the red theme of the truck, a set of American Force 24×14-inch Fallout series wheels were sent to the anodizer to be given a bright red “glow”. Since the Fallout series is part of American Force’s Faceplate series, the faceplates were painted red and black. This gave a custom pinstriped look to the wild wheels. Once the wheels were done, they were wrapped in a set of Toyo Tires‘ Open Country 40×15.5R24s. One really cool thing about using American Force Monoblock (billet) wheels with Toyo Tires is that both companies hold themselves to very high-quality standards. If you look at the photo, you will see no weights. This combination needed very little to be balanced and it was easy to put the weights on the back side of the wheel.
Giving the fourth gen Ram a more rugged appearance are the Fab Fours front and rear bumpers that were color-matched. The front bumper is the HD Winch Bumper which houses a Warn 15k winch. The bumper, also, has the pre-runner guard and a 30-inch Rigid Industries LED light bar mounted on it.
Behind the bumper, the factory grill was replaced with a Racemesh Grille. The factory headlights were modified as well. The clear covers were removed and a set of Retrofit headlights were installed along with Rigid Industries D2 LED lights. Once the internals had been upgraded, the factory clear covers were glued back on. All additional trim pieces (anything not black), were removed from the truck and painted to match. This gives the truck a full monochromatic paint scheme.
In addition to being able to lower the truck down to make getting in and out easier, a set of AMP Research power running boards were installed. The factory seats were removed and red centers were stitched into the factory seats.
The pattern chosen was one of snakes (aptly called Snake Venom). If you look carefully, you can see the open mouth ready to bite. While this is a very aggressive scene, with what little you can see, it isn’t creepy at all when you are in the cab. But, it will remind you to stay alert and be aware of all that is going on around you, no matter where you are.
Keeping with the red theme, a custom speaker box was crafted by Extreme Offroad and painted red with black letters to match the interior. Mounted to the speaker box are a pair of Rockford Fosgate amplifiers (one T2500-bdCP and one T100-4AD) and two T2D212 Power T2 series 12-inch subwoofers. The T100-4AD feeds the Power T5652-S Rockford Fosgate component speakers. Everything has been integrated with the factory head unit to retain all of the factory functionality. To help reduce vibrations and noise, the cab was, also, covered in Dynamat. The finishing touch to the interior was the suede headliner.
Taking a look under the hood, you can see that Novak hasn’t done a ton to the engine. It has plenty of power for cruising and at the time of this photo shoot, the truck is still under warranty. He did upgrade the intake to an aFe Power intake and added a 4-inch MBRP exhaust system. Novak has a Bully Dog tuner for the truck but hasn’t had a chance to install it yet.
All said and done, this fourth gen Ram has been to the SEMA Show and a number of local shows, and it still is turning heads. “I use the truck for advertising for my company, Novak Motorcars where we sell lifted trucks and sports cars here in San Antonio, Texas. I simply park it out front and it brings in a crowd,” said Novak. “I just cannot say enough about the guys at Extreme Offroad and Performance,” he continued.
We couldn’t agree more. Extreme Offroad has truly done it again and built a head turner. Their risky approach to the wheels and dedication to keeping the exterior monochromatic really paid off.
