The Expo Center of Taylor County in Abilene, Texas hosted the Texas Truck and Tractor Pulling Association (TTTPA) September 6th and 7th. We were able to get one of our Editors there on Saturday to catch all the action live. The talk in the pits was all about the dirt. The Expo Center had prepped the track extremely well and the clay had a lot of bite. Unfortunately, most of the other pulls don’t have high gripping tracks. Therefore, many of the pullers had tires with too much bite.
Due to a barrage of broken parts, many participants had to drop out after Friday nights’ runs. Most tried to combat the conditions by trying to air up their tires to reduce the contact patch hoping not to lug their engines too much at the big end. As the night played out, it was pretty apparent that even aired up tires, had too much bite for a number of pullers as they woofed out their chargers.
The two fighting for first, Ready to Rumble (click here for our feature) and Mutt, didn’t seem to have any issues and continued to duke it out. The returning champion Mutt, managed to best Ready to Rumble by 5 feet on the 7th. It was a different story on the 6th when Ready to Rumble took first and Mutt took 5th.
Here is a complete list of how the night shook out:
- Edgar Autecous, Save The Racks, 292.08 first pull, repull 280.09
- John Weatherby, Hell Fire, 319.11
- Vanessa Finstad, Uncommon, 332.03
- Jason Flemins, Chain Smokin, 314.02
- Jared Green, Texas Smoke, 319.02
- Buck Hyndman, Ready to Rumble, 344.04
- Shane McKee, Mutt, 349.10
- Shawn Braun, Bad Asset, 324.09
- Ritchie Shafer, Borrowed Time, 317.11
- Darvin Bradley, Half Breed, 332.00
This is just another great example of the quality events presented by the TTTPA. If you’re ever in a town where they are coming be sure to grab a ticket and go check it out. Or better yet, sign up to pull – assuming you are ready!
