The ranks of the NHRDA are full of hardcore diesel racers. The action is just as engaging as any gas fueled drag race, and has a blue-collar feel. These drag trucks are no farm truck turned racer. They are purpose built, compound turbos, nitrous, you name it, anything to get down the track faster. The Texas Diesel Nationals were a big event for the NHRDA, and Bully Dog put on a big show for the fans.
The drag truck of Jarid Vollmer is a Dodge Ram platform featuring a 5.9-liter Cummins diesel, with extensive treatment from the tuning specialists at Bully Dog. According to Vollmer, “It’s an enjoyable truck to drive, it’s awesome to watch, it did good for us this year.” Answering to the combination that set this world record run Vollmer explained the truck is running “45 pounds of boost, running one shot of nitrous on it, 125 jet, and it does pretty good for what we do with it.”
Staging at the lights we see this truck certainly has the torque to spin the tires until they burst. Waiting for the tree to light up Volmer stands on the gas, and we see the massive power and torque twist the cab of the truck lifting the driver side front wheel before the passenger. Despite the frame twisting torque, he has no problems getting traction and blasts down the track for a best run of 8.51 seconds at 159 mph.
Bully Dog has a big following in diesel, and this truck is a testament to their support and product development. Thanks to Javier Padron for the video coverage!
