You may love it or you may hate it, but the winter months are here, and diesel gelling is a real concern. This is why it is so important to keep our trucks in mind when we’re at the part store or buying items online. Are you storing your fuel in a tank at home? Are you just filling up during the week in your daily? You need a winter months anti-gel for your tank either way.
In a recent post from Lucas Oil on their Facebook page, they shared the importance of using an anti-gel and said the work doesn’t stop just because it got cold outside. Their Anti-Gel Cold Weather Diesel Treatment is specifically designed to prevent cold filter plugging in diesel and biodiesel fuels. This anti-gel comes packaged in multiple ways depending on your fleet.
You have the option to buy these in 32-ounce bottles, 64-ounce bottles, 5-gallon pails, and even 55-gallon drums. Regardless of your use, you can get enough.
- #10865 – 32-ounce (Case of 12) – 25 lbs
- #10866 – 64-ounce (Case of 6) – 25 lbs
- #10867 – 5 Gallon Pail (1 Pail) – 40 lbs
- #10868 – 55 Gallon Drum – 440 lbs
Add one bottle of Lucas’ Anti-Gel to each 150-gallon of pure low-sulfur diesel fuel. For 300 gallons, you can use an entire 64-ounce bottle. This will prevent the thickening of the fuel or gelling. Lucas recommends using a second bottle for temperatures below 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
In short, this additive will remove moisture from the entire fuel system using its water dispersants. To prevent diesel fuel from gelling (or crystallizing) you should use an anti-gel fuel supplement. Anti-gel additives drop the freezing point of diesel fuel so that it is less likely to freeze in cold temperatures. Anti-gel additives are designed to lower the Cold Filter Plugging Point. If moisture is inside your fuel system and the temperatures are cold enough outside, like water on your porch on a freezing day, it will freeze and the damage is done.
No alcohol is used in the product and it is safe to use on any diesel application, even if it has warranty and diesel particulate filters. For more information about Lucas Oil’s Anti-Gel Cold Weather Diesel Treatment, head on over to their website here.
