NHRDA JB’s Canadian Diesel Shootout Recap

LeadThe NHRDA rolled into Canada for the 5th straight year hosting JB’s Canadian Diesel Shootout at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta.

Castrol RacewayAs suspected this year once again proved to be the biggest diesel event in all of Canada. This year’s event included national sponsors: Air Dog, Airaid, ARP, BD Diesel Performance, BorgWarner Turbo Systems, G&J Diesel, Industrial Injection, ISSPRO Gauges, PPE, Scheid Diesel, Southbend Clutch, Strictly Diesel, Randy’s Offroad, XDP and event sponors: JB’s Power Centre, Four Wheel Performance, Canadian Diesel Online and Supreme Diesel.

According to the NHRDA, “The diesel shootout attracted top competitors from Canada and the USA including both the National Pro Street Record Holder Jarid ‘The Iron Man’ Vollmer from and the former Pro Street World Champion Donovan Harris from Red Deer, Alberta and they met up in the Pro Street finals for a USA versus Canada show down.

Vendor row was packed all day long and featured over 40 vendors that had the latest and greatest in Diesel Performance along with show only pricing that gave the spectators some great deals. The Burnout Contest was by far the crowd favorite and the crazy Canadians set a new decibel level record cheering for the champion Collin Loyd at over 104 decibels.” Personally, I have never thought to measure the success of a burnout contest by the decibel level of the crowd but leave it to the fantastic Canadians to set this new trend. 104 decibels gives me a headache just thinking about it.”

Pro Stock Champion

Pro Stock Champion-Kevin Douglas

Now, let’s talk about the winners:

Pro Stock Champion-Kevin Douglas

According to the NHRDA, “Kevin Douglas from Calgary Alberta just got a new Transmission last week and was scrambling to the truck up and running for the Canadian Diesel Shootout. During qualifying you could tell the tranny was working good but he was having fueling issues as he ran a mid 10 second pass. Ryan “The Hardway” Milliken was the number one qualifier running a 8.89et but we found out later that he hurt the motor and could not make the final round against Douglas as he ran a 10.13et at 139.04mph to take the win.”

Pro Street Champion-Donovan Harris

The NHRDA reports, “he former World Champion Donovan Harris from Red Deer Alberta had both a new motor and transmission setup and he was the #3 qualifier running a 9.58et at 145.11mph. Jarid “The Iron Man” Vollmer ran a 8.89et at 155.26mph and was sitting in the #1 qualifying position and seemed to be favorite. Harris took out Malcom Cross in the semi finals and Vollmer took out Darren Willman so it would National Champion versus former World Champion in the finals. Harris had the better reaction time off the line and never looked back as he ran a 9.28et at 152.31mph to take the win.”

Super Street Champion-Devon Lock

As the NHDRA commented, “Devon Lock made the 8 hour drive down from Fort St John and ran a 10.04et at 134.42mph to be the #1 qualifier. His teammate Justin Sherba qualified in the #4 position running a conservative 10.06et at 126.98mph. As both competitor moved thru eliminations they realized it was going to be an all Supreme Diesel finals. Even though these guys are great friends it was all down to business as they headed into the water box. As the lights came down both had good reaction times and at half track they were still bumper to bumper but at the big end Lock drove around Sherba to take the win running a 10.12et at 134.30mph to Sherba’s 10.22et at 133.47mph.”

BD Power Super Diesel Champion

BD Power Super Diesel Champion- Brent Ryz

BD Power Super Diesel Champion-Brent Ryz

According to the NHRDA, “Brent Ryz drove his 2006 Dodge from Manitoba to Castrol Raceway to enter into the Super diesel class for his 1st time with the NHRDA. Brent easily worked thru the eliminations rounds by cutting good lights and in the semi finals ran a 11.92et on the 11.90 dial time. Collin Loyd was on the opposite side of the ladder and was running right on the 11.90 index so the finals were shaping up to be a great showdown. In the final round Loyd cut the better reaction time but ran a 11.85et and broke out giving Ryz his 1st ever win in Super Diesel.”

Strictly Diesel Sportsman Champion-Kendall Freed

The NHRDA reported, “Kendall Freed is a long time drag racer at Castrol Raceway and we were not to surprised when he grabbed his tow vehicle and entered into the Sportsman class. Freed posted his best reaction time of .012 in qualifying to be the #1 qualifier out of the 42 competitors in his class. Kendall easily worked his way thru eliminations and it became very apparent that he was the man to beat as he consistently was running right on his dial time. In the finals Freed cut a .041 reaction time and ran a 15.30 on his 15.30 dial to defeat his opponent Brad Munro.”

Burnout Contest Winner-Collin Loyd

As mentioned previously, the burnout contest was a raving success at over 104 decibels. The NHRDA had this to say, “fter Collin Loyd lost in the final round of Super Diesel by breaking out we figured he had some aggregation he needed to take out and there is now better way to do that than the burnout contest. Loyd was by far the overwhelming crowd favorite as his speedo hit 230km in the water box and the crowd erupted and hit a 104 on the decibel meter.”

Show N Shine Winner-Devon Lock

It appears as though Devon Lock managed to double down and take away two victories from this event. According to the NHRDA, “Devon Lock not only won the Super Street class but he also entered into Show n Shine competition and judges love his very clean 1100hp truck and Devon doubled down winning both the Show n Shine and Super Street Class.”
