The 20th anniversary of the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza kicked off in Terre Haute, Indiana with something for everyone containing four events under one roof. The event host a dyno competition, show-n-shine, diesel drag racing, and pulling on Friday and Saturday.
If you have never been to the Extravaganza there is something for everyone, with something going on the whole day – there is never a dull moment. The morning starts with a cloud of smoke outside vendor alley signifying the start of the dyno competition.
Trucks lined up to take their shot at the dyno to see if they had what it took to take the daily crown. One-by-one the trucks would get pulled onto the mobile dyno and show what they could do. Day one’s winner was Shawn Baca in his Dodge truck that put down 2,180.6 horsepower and 2,589.5 lb-ft of torque.

The crowd gathering around the two outside dynos grew as the day progress, but quickly dispersed when a late afternoon shower pushed everyone inside. Vendor Hall was located inside the main build at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds and contained plenty of diesel companies. This gave the diesel enthusiasts a chance to ask the manufacturer any question they may have on a current product or something they plan on purchasing down the road.

If checking out trucks is more your thing, no worries, the show-n-shine was the place for you. Outside the Purdue Diesel Club put on the yearly event which had a record breaking 102 entrants for the Friday show. An event that started with around 30 trucks years ago has grown to one of the staples of the extravaganza.
From sky-high trucks to lowered rat rods the show-n-shine had plenty of vehicles to see. Stay tuned for our Top 5 vehicles from the show-n-shine and see who we think was the best-looking truck on display.
Looking for something a little faster? The dirt track at the fairgrounds played host to the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League. These trucks would put on a show pulling the sled down the track. The rain may have pushed back the start of the event, but that did not stop the fans from packing the stands. The Lucas Oil crew with prep the track after the rain and get it ready for the evening runs.
The night’s action on the dirt showcased six different classes. The classes that participated in the pulling were the Pro Stock Tractors, Super Farm Tractors, Hot Rod Semi’s, Super Stock, Pro Stock, and Limited Pro Stock.
The rain may not have stopped the pulling, but it did close down the drag strip. The night’s test and tune were canceled due to the rain. The track would be host to races on Saturday starting with qualifying at 11:00 am.
