ProMaxx Performance Products has established itself in the marketplace as a manufacturer of affordable aluminum cylinder heads that perform better than their price might suggest. However, they aren’t content to have that reputation for just a few applications.
“We have a large assortment of heads, from full-blown CNC drag racing heads, down to heads for a 4.0 Jeep Wrangler,” says ProMaxx owner, Jason Collins. “Our heads are made of 356-T6 aluminum which we spec, with different guides and seats than other economical heads on the market. That’s really our claim to fame. You’re buying something at a lower price, but you aren’t sacrificing performance or quality.”
To that end, ProMaxx has two unique cylinder heads on display which are far from cookie-cutter. The first is an LS3 head, designed to work on small-bore engine combinations. “It has an LS3 runner that will fit on a 3.900-inch bore,” says Collins. “It’s got a .750-inch-thick deck, it has the raised valve cover rail, and is milled so you can run a shaft system, or it has a bolt-on billet rail to allow you to run a stock LS3 rocker setup.”
In addition to the LS head, ProMaxx decided to dive into a world where an affordable aluminum cylinder head isn’t exactly commonplace — the diesel market. “Here at ProMaxx we do diesel performance stuff, too. We are the only people to have a 6.0-liter PowerStroke aluminum head,” Collins says of the DX-series cylinder heads
“We’ve taken that casting — which used to be cast-iron — and turned it into an aluminum head. We picked up flow — almost 30 cfm — in the as-cast version. And with the CNC version, it flows 240 cfm which is roughly 100cfm better than stock.” That kind of flow increase from a budget-minded cylinder head is almost unheard of. Add in the ability to order them already machined for O-rings, and you’re looking at some pretty impressive PowerStroke cylinder heads.
