SEMA 2015: Aeromotive Brings Power Through Fuel Delivery

Aeromotive is a trusted name in the performance automotive world, and when we caught wind of its newest diesel fuel sump and filtration system, we knew we had to take a closer look.

We talked to Jared Cox, who actually designed the diesel lift pump and filtration system. He explained, “Basically, we figured there was a bit of a void in the market for a quality lift pump, and many of our customers were asking us to produce one. So for the better part of three years I was tasked with creating what you see here.”

IMG_9864Cox continued, “Our first task was to create the in-tank baffle assembly in an effort to eliminate the infamous ‘quarter tank issue’ which creates a stumble and gurgle, common in diesel trucks once the fuel tank level falls below a quarter, and the pump becomes intermittently starved for fuel. Next we did a 5/8-inch feed line to the pump which helped cut down on aeration of the fuel, the very thing you’re trying to get rid of.” Essentially, the more entrained air that is in your fuel, the less fuel is actually sprayed into your cylinders.

Lastly, he added, “We then went to the fuel pump and to add a lot of key features and benefits, such as a flow-through design that eliminates a shaft seal that could eventually fail, and a brushless motor which more than doubles the life expectancy of the pump. It also has a built-in check valve on the outlet of the pump which keeps it primed at all times, no need to fill or prime the system when you do a filter change, and a fuel pressure gauge so the end user may adjust the amount of fuel for their application.”

Recently, Aeromotive installed this system into a Ford 6.0-liter truck, and a before/after dyno comparison showed an 11 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque increase at the rear wheels in addition to a 2 mpg increase. Now those are some results we can get excited about!
