SEMA 2019: aFe Power Hits The Ground Running With DFS780 Lift Pump

The lift pump world in our market has been cornered for some time, but that doesn’t stop existing companies from trying their hand at it. At the 2019 SEMA Show, aFe Power showed us their DFS780 lift pump that is extremely user-friendly. If we were to make a wager, we’d say these lift pumps are going to shake things up a bit.

We met with Dave Simpson, Vice President of Sales for aFe, and he gave us the rundown on this DFS unit. “A year or so ago, we won an engineering award via SEMA for this exact pump. This is your one-stop-shop for your lift pump needs,” said Simpson. “This pump will not only supply your engine with fuel, but it will also separate the air, the dirt, and contaminants from the fuel, as well as separate out any water from the fuel.”

The DFS780 show here is their top of the line unit. For around a market average price of $800, you can get your pump and start filtering your fuel today. With these aFe units, you can use the supplied filters, with replacement filters available from your local parts store. “Our competitors force you to use a proprietary filter, whereas ours you can just run to the parts store for a replacement,” said Simpson.

Shown here are the up-close views of the air-separator part of the DFS780, as well as the DC electronic motor that comes on aFe's pumps.

The DFS780 features a sight glass on the bottom of the unit so you can physically see the water separation. Below the chamber is a drain valve that you can use to empty the contaminants. Other features include another clear sight glass on top, which allows you to physically see the air being removed from the fuel, as well as the great-looking anodized billet-aluminum mount.

These pumps are designed to be vehicle-specific and come with precise instructions. When you order a lift pump from aFe, it comes with all of the needed hoses and wiring to plumb this for your vehicle. It’s truly a do-all package.
