Another Diesel-Powered Machine Hits Up Lights Out Series In Georgia

Mickey Thompson is once again serving as the title sponsor for Lights Out 11, “The Baddest Small Tire Races In The World.” Their ET Street Radial Pro line has taken off and has become the premier tire to use in this style of racing. In fact, the latest creation out of Hardway Performance‘s lab is “The Diesel Ranger” and it’s using these too.

Ryan Milliken, Owner of Hardway Performance, is no stranger to these radial tire events as he’s turned what was once just a cool outing in a diesel car to a seriously competitive race car in the X275 class. Over the ’19 offseason, the car was actually sold to an excited Texas team looking to continue the success with the car and push it to the limits but Milliken couldn’t stay away.

Knowing the seriousness of this race, companies like Hardway, SunCoast, Hot Shot’s Secret, Nitrous Express, and S & S Diesel Motorsport have jumped on board with “The Diesel Ranger” to help.

Although Milliken doesn’t have a ride anymore, or yet I should say, he couldn’t stay away. He’s been helping Johnathan Montesino prepare his Ford Ranger for some radial tire racing and sure enough, they trust these ET Street Radial Pro’s from Mickey Thompson. “We’ve been testing with this truck for a while and it seems as if the truck gets faster every time we put a smaller tire on it,” said Milliken.

Mickey Thompson’s ET Street Radial Pro is a purpose-built race tire for classes requiring P275/60R15 or P315/60R15 tires built from size-specific materials. The radial features next-generation construction designed to take more power for better launches, a reduced tread pattern for maximum traction, and is for racing only – not street use.

He continued, “We tried this truck with slicks and it would not make an A to B pass. The first pass off the trailer with the 315’s, it went A to B with minimal changes to the chassis. We decided to try out the 275’s which took a new wheel combination as well as a new rear gears and it’s been personal best everything with the smallest tire right off the trailer.”

It’s clear that this truck likes radials and with someone like Milliken with his experience in radial racing and diesel power management, Montesino’s Ranger is in good hands.
