Harmonic balancers or crankshaft dampers are absolutely critical. They’re what keeps your engine running freely and rotate balanced. Without a good one, you’re risking your investment in either a drag truck or pulling truck/tractor. Our friends over at Fluidampr just released not one but two different dampers for diesel competition.
The applications are the 5.9 and 6.7-Liter Common-Rail Cummins (P/N 980301) and tractor pulling engines with a taper-lock hub (P/N 1243101). If you’re serious about diesel competition and you need a damper, this is for you.
- Damper only. No pulley.
- Robust one-piece construction.
- Integrated tone wheel.
- SFI 18.1 spec.
- Robust competition design specifically for tractor pulling.
- 12 bolt flange for custom mounting.
- Clockwise and counter-clockwise laser engraved timing marks.
- SFI 18.1 spec.
Excited to hear more about the development of these projects, I spoke with a few guys over at Fluidampr including Nick Orefice. Orefice was approached by a few people interested in these items and the wheels began to turn. “Ryan Milliken of Hardway Performance and I spoke at last year’s Scheid Diesel event about our dampers. After a few weeks of conversation, the ball was rolling on a common rail Cummins competition damper,” Orefice said.
Orefice continued, “After some initial design ideas back and forth with Ryan and John from Freedom Racing Engines, I set out to convince management and ownership that we should support this setup. After our first meeting to bring this comp damper and HD pulling damper to market, our amazing ownership went to work with engineers to try and make it happen,”
Some people don’t know this but Fluidampr is actually a small, family-owned business and putting hours into research and development cost a lot of money. With that said, it was a big risk to go out and attempt to create something that may not sell but in an attempt to support the racing community that supports them, they went for it.
“After months of planning and some inevitable delays, we are super excited to get these out to the racers and pullers. I am a fanatic for Super Stock pulling and the HD damper for those guys was a big goal of mine. Steve Blagrave, owner of the “Red Horse” tractor called me looking for a Fluidampr product that could handle what they had to offer. Like the Cummins comp damper, we redesigned a damper that is purpose-built for pulling tractors. I walked these projects through the process knowing the gap in performance harmonic dampers would soon be filled for the teams that needed it most. Both of these products are SFI certified which is a huge deal when it comes to safety,” said Orefice.
I am excited for the team at Fluidampr for making these happen and I appreciate their support to both the drag racing and sled pulling community.
