Horsepower In A Bottle, Nitrous Express NXD systems!

Most of us drive our trucks on the street. So, we need our trucks to stay streetable. When it comes to choosing the right power upgrades, we are often times opting for a turbocharger that is smaller than what our fuel levels actually require for just that reason.

Photo of the NXD4000 system. This system has 2 dry stages. (Dry refers to the nitrous being sprayed without the addition of fuel. 99.9% of diesel systems are dry.)

It is pretty simple, big chargers take longer to spool and generally cause high EGT’s at while driving around the street. But, what is the best way to have your cake and eat it too? Nitrous is a pretty good option for most of us. It allows us to tune down the truck and have it behave well on the street, but when we are at a dyno event, the drag strip or just want to raise some hell, we can put in a hot tune and hook up the spray!

The actual chemical is pretty universal. When you run out of nitrous, you simply go down to your local speed shop or whoever is in your area carries it and get your bottle filled. So, what really matters when looking at adding nitrous to your truck? The key is how the system is built and controlled.

Most kits come with a bottle and some mounting brackets to mount the bottle. Then you have lines and solenoids (there are some differences here) and then more lines and some jets. In addition, there is usually some sort of controller and it is this controller that really separates all of the different types of systems.

At the heart of the Nitrous Express system is the Maximizer 4 Progressive Controller.

Sure, the solenoids do vary and matter, but the controller is the big key here. Nitrous Express’ Maximizer 4 Progressive Controller has the ability to run two stages and can be programmed to work off of either time, RPM, MPH, throttle percentage or boost pressure. Having this many ways to tune your system; really allows you to dial in the amount of spray you want, when you want it.

The nice thing for a diesel is that we don’t have to worry about air and fuel ratios nearly as much as a gas engine. So, tuning is a matter of watching your tailpipe, EGT’s, and tires (need to make sure you are actually putting that extra power down to the ground).

Nitrous Express has two “diesel” kits available with the Maximizer 4 controller. There is a single stage NXD1000 and a two stage system NXD4000. These systems come with a 15 lb bottle, -6 feed line, nozzles, solenoids and pretty much everything you need to start making more power.

For more info on these kits check out Nitrous Express’ website or like them on Facebook!

This is the NXD1000 system from Nitrous Express. Notice that it is pretty much the same system as the NXD4000 with the exception of one less solenoid and a few less wires.
