Industrial Injection: Your One-Stop Shop For Anything Turbochargers

As any diesel performance enthusiast will tell you, one of the more difficult things on the modification list to choose is the turbocharger. When adding fuel to your engine, it will result in additional heat. With that heat, you will need to supply the engine with enough air for maximum horsepower, torque, and efficiency. But, who can help you in choosing? Industrial Injection is your one-stop shop for anything turbochargers.

“For the average diesel truck owner and even diesel performance enthusiasts, the ins and outs of a turbocharger are uncommon knowledge,” said Scott Dana, with Industrial Injection. “Turbocharger assemblage is not especially complicated. Most everyone with simple mechanic skills can take one apart or even put it back together. The complexity comes from knowing the varying tolerances, specifications, and performance outputs.”

Jared Delekta’s record-breaking, Cummins-powered Chevrolet is another piece of the Industrial Injection arsenal.

When choosing a turbocharger, there are different things you need to consider beforehand. For a street truck, drivability is a concern. With too large of a turbo, your truck can lack acceleration due to excessive turbo lag. You’re waiting for a larger turbo to spool, causing smoke, poor acceleration, and elevated exhaust temperatures.

Whether you’re repairing or improving performance, Industrial Injection covers Duramax, Power Stroke, and Cummins turbochargers.

In a drag racing or sled pulling, typically you’ll see engines that are race-capable and set up for larger turbos. In competition, you run as big as you want, or as big as you can spool. There are many factors that play into how to spool a larger turbo, but the bottom line is when you aren’t concerned with drivability; the sky really is the limit.

Since the rise of the empire in 1985, Industrial Injection has been reconditioning turbochargers to OEM specs. As a matter of fact, some of the turbo technicians Industrial employs have actually been in the rebuilding business since the mid-1970s. “Those who’ve been around longer got their start in the factory facilities, which inevitably led them to Industrial’s door,” said Dana. “Needless to say, turbocharger knowledge runs deep here at Industrial Injection.”

Things To Watch For When Shopping For Turbochargers

Proving that their turbo knowledge runs deep, we bet you’ve seen this truck a time or two in competition.

When you’re buying a new factory turbocharger, you need to make sure that the parts that are being used to rebuild it are factory. No matter what you’ve heard, cheaper is not a better option. If the parts cost you half price, they’ll typically last half the time, meaning you’ll buy two for half-price when you should have bought the proven parts, to begin with.

When you’re buying a custom turbocharger, you still need to consider using good parts, but you need to have a turbo builder that knows what they are doing. Using a builder that isn’t experienced can result in failures which will lead to costly engine repairs. There are many parts to know about turbos when sizing for your needs – turbine wheel, compressor wheel, inducer, exducer, and twin/single scroll come to mind. “We want to ensure that everyone has a trained builder at the ring of the phone,” Dana said. “We strive to use the most genuine parts in all of our turbos.”

About The Aftermarket

It’s all because of the drive for more that we have the aftermarket, and when it comes to turbochargers, Dana shed some light on what the aftermarket versus stock debate means. “Stock turbos can only do so much,” he said. “If you’re trying to get 50 pounds of boost out of a turbo designed to operate at 20 psi, expect parts to start flying.”

“The diesel performance industry has embraced these problems by selling upgraded turbos with wastegates, modified compressor and exhaust housings, and different compressor wheels and shafts,” continued Dana. “If you’re the type of person who likes some bling, polished compressor housings are usually available. If you’re in it for reliability, improved oiling, ball-bearing supported shafts, and water cooling, those can be had as well.”

Like previously mentioned, Industrial Injection not only has some of the best turbo technicians in the industry, but they have a full in-house turbo machine shop. All of their equipment is state-of-the-art, ranging from mechanical lathes to CNC lathes to shaft balancing machines to a five-axis CNC machine. All of them provide customers with one of the best turbocharger rebuilding and manufacturing facilities in the industry.

Industrial Injection is North America’s largest BorgWarner Franchise Distributor, as well as one of the highest-ranked Holset Distributors. Shane Williams, Industrial Injection Co-Owner, is a member of the BorgWarner Distributor Council and the Holset CTT Distributor Council. Industrial Injection has four employees factory trained by BorgWarner to provide an on-the-spot warranty. Industrial Injection can also do warranties for Holset CTT.

With an in-house dyno at their disposal, Industrial Injection has thousands of miles worth of data in many different turbo configurations. This gives them the upper hand when helping select the right turbocharger for you. Whether that be a box unit or something custom, Industrial carries the knowledge and experience to get you what you need.

The top three turbocharger manufacturers in the diesel performance industry are Holset, BorgWarner, and Garrett. Industrial Injection is now an official dealer of all three companies. With the knowledge and parts that they can offer, Industrial Injection makes it smooth and painless when choosing the correct turbocharger for your diesel.
