It’s 2018, so let’s be honest, you aren’t usually surprised when you find crazy items online for sale. Well, I stand corrected after this hidden gem. How about this 2002 21 foot Malibu Wakesetter VLX powered by a Duramax diesel engine. Do you want to be the guy that stands out? Here is your chance.
The seller had this idea to build this machine for years before it ever happened. But, now that it is complete, it spends most of its time Norris Lake, Lake Cumberland, and Lake Of The Ozarks. With this new impressive build, it only added up 97 hours on the new transmission and freshly rebuilt engine.
The engine is a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine that has been modified with an item or two. The seller claims he’s compounded an HY35 over an S400 frame charger for quick spooling boost. It’s utilizing a five-position switch for EFI Live tuning, an Edge Products CTS monitor for gauges, and an Air Dog II 165 lift pump for fuel supply.
The single most expensive part of the whole project was finding a transmission that could be used in a boat and hold the torque of this monster Duramax engine. The seller ended up with a ZF 280 IV V-drive transmission with 1.252 ratios to match the torque numbers of this engine. The boat will hit 43 mph at 3,600 rpm and set you back in your seat.
Okay, so everyone can’t tell it’s a diesel from a distance, but how do you attract every to it? The sound system Rocks amplifier powering two 12-inch Alpine Subs Rockford Fosgate 800W. Making enough sound that the people will have no choice but to come check it out.
Now, this is awesome and we would all love to have it. But, it comes with a price. That price is starting at $45,000 and hailing from somewhere in Ohio. As much as we would like to run up there and grab it, it’s not looking good for us to own it. For cool internet finds like this, stay tuned here at Diesel Army.
