For 19 years, Ward’s 10 Best Engines competition has been measuring the quality of engines and components available in the U.S. Eligible competitors must include production vehicles that were sold within the first quarter of 2013, base priced under $55,000. WardsAuto has been involved in the automotive industry for over 80 years, providing the automotive community with data and analysis on cars and components.
Within the list of Ward’s 10 best engines, MAHLE components were found in nine of them, meaning an astounding 90% of the ten best engines used MAHLE components such as: piston systems and cylinder components, valvetrain components, air-management or liquid management systems. These vehicles that included the 10 best engines included a 4-cylinder, like Ford’s 2.0L EcoBoost DOHC as found in the Ford Focus ST and Taurus, GM’s 2.0L turbocharged DOHC 4-cylinder found in the Cadillac ATS, the Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar DOHC V-6 found in the Ram 1500, and also the 5.8L Supercharged DOHC v-8 as found in the Ford Shelby GT500, among several others from the import side of the automotive world.
In a press release on the MAHLE web site, Scott Ferriman, MAHLE’s North American Vice President of Sales and Application Engineering, said, “The fact that MAHLE’s engine components and systems are featured on 90 percent of these award-winning engines is a great tribute to our engineering and product development teams. The MAHLE Group continues to provide its global customers pioneering powertrain technologies that will keep them in the forefront of next-generation engine development.”
Ward’s says, “From a sophisticated bread-and-butter 4-cylinder to the world’s most powerful production V-8, the winners of the 2013 Ward’s 10 Best Engines awards stand as a tribute to internal combustion.”
