If you pay attention to diesel performance, you know the name Hot Shot’s Secret (HSS). For years, HSS has been developing and delivering full-synthetic oils to diesel truck owners that meet or exceed engine manufacturers’ specifications. Several years ago, they came out with a 15W-40 weight, and with newer engines needing a lighter viscosity (10W-30 diesel oil) they answered the call.

Black Diamond Outlaw 10w-30 is a 100-percent pure poly-a-olefin (PAO) Group IV synthetic oil that requires a very small amount of viscosity improvers to meet the weight specifications. The infusion of Hot Shot’s Secret patented FR3 Nano Technology and CK-4 additive package provides unsurpassed levels of longevity and performance while keeping the oil cleaner longer and providing better mileage and horsepower.

According to HSS, when the government mandated specifications for CJ-4 and CK-4 diesel oil manufacturers removed a lot of the additives that made diesel oils so robust. Hot Shot’s Secret Black Diamond Outlaw returns these lost properties and is the most complete diesel oil available. It has the highest Total Base Number (TBN) rating and the highest extreme-pressure additive package, which includes zinc, of all HSS oils.

Hot Shot’s Secret chose their PAO Adrenaline Racing Oil as the starting point for Black Diamond Outlaw and blended in additional CK-4 additive, extreme-pressure additives, and TBN Booster. With a TBN rating of nearly 15, Black Diamond Outlaw exceeds the CK-4 specification by 150 percent with nearly three times the amount of zinc mandated by API for the CK-4 specification. Black Diamond Outlaw 10w-30 is not intended for vehicles with DPF, catalytic converters, EGR, or other emission equipment as damage to these systems could occur.

Hot Shot’s Secret Brand Manager, Josh Steinmetz, says, “Black Diamond Outlaw is the ultimate engine oil for high-performance diesel engines. Non-DPF vehicles allow [the inclusion of] a much higher level of zinc and TBN in the oil, so we have added three times the level of zinc mandated by API for CK-4 specification, 14 points of TBN, and infused this oil with our FR3 friction reducer to get 3x the oil protection. The additive package is stronger than anything on the market, this oil checks all the boxes for high performance whether you are off-roading, street, strip, or pulling.”

It means that Black Diamond Outlaw is designed for higher horsepower, non-emissions-equipped trucks that require a longer change interval. Black Diamond Outlaw 10W-30 can be run up to three times longer than the manufacturer’s recommended specifications.

With the combined use of a bypass oil filter, scheduled oil analysis program, and Hot Shot’s Secret TBN Booster, HSS says this 10W-30 diesel oil can last up to 100,000 miles if your oil filter is changed at the manufacturer’s recommended interval. If your truck still possesses emissions equipment, sticking with Green Diamond or Blue Diamond is a better option for you.
