5 Blade Mafia: A Drop In 5 Blade HE351 For The Masses

Stainless Diesel should not be an unfamiliar name to anyone in the diesel world. For years, they have been supplying air to some of the top drag racers and sled pullers in the game and have now taken on a different challenge; Building a 5 blade drop-in charger for your everyday 6.7-liter Cummins trucks. They want to offer a package looks the same but offers more.

If you’re like most people in the world with working trucks, you want a turbo that will be a jack of all trades and that’s exactly what Stainless Diesel is offering with this new line of he351 VGT turbos. They are of course a direct drop-in charger, but it’s really the details that set this turbo apart from other drop-in turbos.

“We saw a niche in the market for a charger that fits between the factory restrictive charger and the larger single ones drivers use,” said Johnny Gilbert, Owner Of Stainless Diesel. “Not everyone is sled pulling every weekend and we saw the need to bring something that benefited everyone with that factory appearance. As of right now, there is only one size option but hopefully in the future, we can offer more sizes that fit more people.”

These chargers offer a 60.5mm compressor wheel, which is slightly larger than stock and is enough additional air to support around 450-500 horsepower or 50-60 horsepower over what the factory charger will restrict your engine too. They are equipped with their iconic 5-blade compressor wheel which is significantly lighter than the factory cast wheel to help shorten spool up times and drop EGT’s.

Most people don’t buy their diesel pickup for all-out performance, although a little extra power never hurt anyone’s feelings. Most are bought to be the workhorse of the modern-day, pulling trailers and have to be able to do this every day without issue. With that in mind, these new chargers retain the exhaust brake function which is greatly helpful when pulling large loads, or more importantly, bringing them to a stop.

Besides the obvious benefits of a lighter compressor wheel decreasing spool up time, the faster turbo will lower EGT’s helping to keep your towing days in check and making sure you can still daily drive your truck with ease and confidence. There is also the option to have the compressor cover polished for those trucks that have a dressed-up engine bay and are wanting a charger that will compliment that.

If you’re in the market for a new turbocharger for your daily driven tow rig or even the occasional track day truck, maybe this drop-in 5-blade unit is for you. For more information, check out the Stainless Diesel website here.
