Ram Truck announced the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will start at $36,890 plus destination charge. Powered with the 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel engine, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel produces the highest half-ton diesel torque at 480 lb-ft and highest half-ton diesel towing capacity at 12,560 pounds.
The EcoDiesel is a nearly $5,000 option over the base and $3,000 over the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque powerplant. The EcoDiesel is available across the full range of models and configurations of the Ram 1500.
“The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel offers the best torque and towing among all half-ton diesel trucks,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “Now with a 10-year track record, the Ram brand has emerged as a truck powertrain technology leader. Overall, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has outstanding pick-up truck capability and is truly in a class of its own.”
The Third generation turbocharged EcoDiesel V6 bumps up its numbers from the second generation in all areas, horsepower, torque, and fuel economy. Horsepower is 8-percent higher while torque is up 14-percent. Fuel economy numbers have not yet been released as of the time of this writing but is expected to be improved.
Lots of attention was given to the all-new powerplant. The turbocharger is now water-cooled with variable geometry to be more efficient and quicker to respond. The engine also features a new dual high and low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system, a first for any diesel engine in North America.
Compression ratio, intake ports, combustion chamber geometry were all tweaked, adjusted or redesigned to improve performance and economy. The upgrades to the EcoDiesel V6 are what made it a winner of Wards 10 Best Engines award for three consecutive years.
