With the passion that surrounds this magazine we cannot help but to appreciate our readers sending us photos and information on their rigs. We have been inundated over the past few months with incredible rides and it is a shame to only post them on Facebook. So, Diesel Army is starting a Reader’s Ride Of The Week. This will be, yes you guessed it, a weekly article where we take one of the many great trucks that our readers have submitted to us and do an article just on them.
To kick things off, we have chosen to highlight David Smith’s 2004½ Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9l HO. As with most of our trucks, this is a work in progress. Under the hood, Smith has added an S&B Filters cold air intake (CAI) and under the truck he removed the muffler and put a straight pipe in its place.
Behind the engine, is a factory 6 speed manual but Smith added a BD Diesel Performance short shift kit. “It makes it faster and easier to row through the gears,” Smith says.
To get the truck off the ground and riding right, Smith added a 5″ CST Performance suspension lift kit. With the lift, he is able to clear the Mickey Thompson 33×12.5 ATZ mounted on 17×10 Ultra Wheel 164 wheels.
In the back, Smith custom made a headache rack. To make sure it didn’t rust on him, he coated it along with the bed and fender flares with Line-X.
Inside the bed, there is a hide-a-way gooseneck hitch. Under the bed, Smith added a set of air bags to help with load stability.
He has a ton of plans for this truck and we are sure he will get there.
