Safety First: Protecting Diesel Truck Components With Liqui Moly

Protection is everything when it comes to diesel engines. Not always, but sometimes these engines can be expensive to repair. To combat that, you can spend some time properly maintaining them to prevent premature failures. In a recent video, Liqui Moly explains all of their diesel-related products, when they are used, what they do, and what you can expect.

Garrett Hughes of Liqui Moly USA was the show talent in this video where he spoke about how important it is to take care of these diesel engines and how their products make a difference. “There are many different products you can use on these engines. For starters, we have the Super Diesel Additive,” he said. “If you have a diesel-powered anything, this is something you want to use periodically. Once a month would be a great interval. What this product does is cleans, lubricates, and gives a boost in cetane levels.” This is what you would use for normal maintenance reasons.

The Diesel System Cleaner is next. This is a product that you use annually or bi-annually. “Much like our gasoline treatment, you can use this a couple of times a year and it is a one-stop-shop. It does basically everything,” Hughes said. “It cleans the fuel, improves fuel mileage, it removes a lot of the fuel deposits, and is overall just a great product that will make sure everything is flowing properly.”

Diesel Purge is a product for those of you who put a lot of miles on your trucks and you’re replacing fuel filters often. Typically when you’re changing out cartridge style filters, you prime the system by filling this up with fuel. This fuel is the first thing that hits those critical fuel system components. This is where the Diesel Purge comes in.

“On trucks with cartridge or screw-on-style filters, this is where you’ll want to use the Purge product. Instead of filling the filter with fuel, you would use the Diesel Purge,” Hughes explained. “What this does is hits your fuel components with a good cleaner off the start. Each of these products is good for that once-a-year interval, but the Purge and DPF Filter Cleaner will be used more often. Every time you change your fuel filters, it is recommended to use Diesel Purge. As for the Diesel Purge, you’ll use this every other month.”

Moving on, the Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner. Near 2010, trucks were equipped with the DPF’s to sustain clean exhaust. These can be a costly replacement item. Liqui Moly’s DPF cleaner helps reduce the soot coming out of the exhaust, and that will result in a smaller chance of the filters becoming clogged. “DPF’s have a tendency to clogging and with the DPF cleaner being added to the fuel filters, we can prevent this from happening,” Hughes explained.

It was said that each of these products can be used at home. If you’re someone who doesn’t do your own maintenance, you’re able to get these products and take them with you to your preferred shop and they will likely use the products for you. “If you’re doing the maintenance yourself on the DPF side of things, we offer a tool that allows you to clear the system of soot,” Hughes said. “The regeneration mode is triggered when the system sees a pressure increase.”

If the truck attempts a regen and it doesn’t work, this is where the cleaning tool will come in handy. You will need a scan tool as well if you’re doing this because you’ll need to manually force regeneration mode so the truck can learn the system now that it’s been cleaned. ”

The tool they offer looks to connect to an air pressure source and you can enter it into the filter where you can pressurize this and force soot out. “Regen can be complicated if it doesn’t work electronically, but luckily we have the tool to get you back on the road,” Hughes said.
