One of the more popular classes at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza is the 2.6 sled pulling class. To get into the “big show”, you have to first prove that you are one of the top trucks in the country. Usually more than 60 of your closest competitors hook up and pull. The top trucks from the qualifying pull are then invited into the evening show. Jordan Jackson is hoping that he will be one of the top trucks this year.
He originally purchased this 2nd generation Dodge in 2011. The truck needed a little work to say the least. Jackson originally wanted a show/street truck. “I bought this truck when I was 17. My dad and I built it from the frame up. My dad does body work and paint. I do the rest of the work and all mechanical and engine work,” said Jackson. As with many, Jackson went pulling and was bit by the bug.
So, over the years his truck has been more and more of a pulling truck until it became a dedicated puller. Jackson says, that he is “trying to accomplish the goal of qualifying for the night pull at the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in August. Last year, I was running an engine with stock internals that limited me to about 800hp. This season I am running a completely upgraded set up, thanks to Haisley Machine!”
What is that setup you ask, well, he is still running a 5.9l block with a standard bore, but it has been filled to help strength it. The crank has been balanced and polished and is held in place with a 14mm girdle. The rods have been balanced, polished, heat treated and shot peened by Haisley. The pistons are fly cut and are coated with a high temp coating to help them last. To ensure that blow by is reduced as much as possible, Jackson opted for gapless rings. To finish the short block off, a Haisley billet camshaft was installed.
Up on top, a Haisley competition head (fire ringed) is connected to a ZZ Fabrication intake manifold and held down with 14mm studs. The valves are operated with Hamilton Cams heavy duty push rods. Once the exhaust valve is opened, the exhaust flows into a T6 Steed Speed exhaust manifold and into a Haisley HX60 2.6 turbocharger. Fueling the beast is a 13mm quick rate P-pump by Scheid Diesel. The fuel is feed through some .120” stainless lines and into the Scheid DT466 5×0.022 injectors. Out front, is a Keating Machine billet front cover and a Fluidampr keeps the harmonics in check.
The rest of the truck is pretty stout as well. Behind the engine is a South Bend triple disc clutch connected to a NV4500 transmission. The rear axle is a Dana 80 with 37 spline axle shafts and features a Yukon 4.88 gear ratio. The front axle is running a locker. The tires are 315 BFG AT’s.
Jackson mentioned that he is only 21, but was quick to point out that he has “paid for every single dime of this truck myself because that’s how I do things. I take pride in building it and also paying for it myself. I couldn’t do it without the help of my dad and my best friend Chase McCombs (McCombs Fabrication) though. They have a lot of hours spent pitching in help. Also couldn’t do it without the help of the Haisley family at Haisley Machine. Thanks to them for all the machine work on the engine and all of the parts and knowledge,” continued Jackson.
This year he planes on running in the 2.6 class pulling with ITPA (Illinois Tractor Pulling Association), PPL (Pro Pulling League), and the Central Ohio Pulling Circuit.
