There’s no denying the power of a Chevy motor. After all, these potent mash-ups of metal are responsible for winning some of the most acclaimed races in motorsports, powering some of the most potent track machines and breathing life into factory cars turned street warriors. While we could point at dozens of Chevy-powered beasts as proof, there can only be a few that take the highest title of the Fastest Chevy-Powered Cars on Planet Earth. Thanks to The Block, that’s what we have for you here.

For their eighth Fuel Newsletter, one featuring some frights for Halloween, writers at The Block set out to find some of the most powerful “scary-fast” Chevy powered vehicles on Earth. Having a good idea where some of these vehicles would be, they headed out to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and weren’t disappointed with what they found.

The first Chevy-powered beast The Block came up with is the Moore Boys #344 Corvette. This 1984 C4 piloted by Bobby Moore has held the title of World’s Fastest Corvette for more than 10 years. In order to accomplish this, the Corvette makes use of a mighty 1,100hp, 572ci engine which is responsible for the car’s 268.298mph speed record on pump gas with no supercharger or nitrous in the Grand Touring class.

The car has been known to go faster in the Modified class, but Moore is particularly proud of the GT record. Additionally, Moore also has five SCTA-BNI records in the car to be proud of.

Getting in touch with Moore, The Block writers found out about another World’s Fastest vehicle- a production El Camino driven by Moore’s girlfriend Peggy Vaught. Nicknamed “Peggy’s Pickup,” the El Camino makes use of a 588ci BBC which is capable of producing 1,100hp. In “stock” form, this bad little Chevy has gone upwards of 205mph.

Rounding out the Chevy-powered Bonneville speed demons The Block found is the Hot Rod Magazine 1980 Camaro. With a 408ci Chevy owned by Hot Rod Magazine Editor in Chief David Freiburger under the hood capable of producing just over 600hp naturally aspirated and 1,100hp with Vortech boost and race gas, the second-generation Camaro is a force to be reckoned with on the Salt.

With owners Keith and Tonya Turk behind the wheel, this powerful Chevy race car has raced to a number of records, including the B/CBGALT Class speed record with a 240.015mph run. Oddly enough, the car also set the speed record for the small-displacement engine class last year. After a loose tube hindered setting another record at the Salt Flats, the Hot Rod Magazine Camaro’s crew decided they could run the car on two cylinders, achieving the unexpected record at just 32mph.

Moving from the salt to the pavement, The Block couldn’t overlook one of the well-known “scary-fast” Chevy-powered drag vehicles to grace strips all across the county- the Banks Power Sidewinder S-10. At its debut in 2007, this truck certainly didn’t hold back, laying down a 7.96-second quarter mile pass with a trap speed of 167.34mph.

This amazing accomplishment went beyond the local track, however, as the run was quick enough for the diesel truck to be the first in the 7s, securing the title of fastest diesel-fueled drag truck in the world. In 2009, the truck proved its power once again, setting national speed and ET records in the NHRDA Pro-Stock division with a 7.77-second quarter mile time at 180mph.

Last but certainly not least on The Block’s list of potent Chevy-powered beasts is the Lingenfelter ZL1 Camaro. Back in April, Lingenfelter and Freiburger (Hot Rod Magazine Editor in Chief) became the first group of people to take Chevrolet’s brand new ZL1 Camaro over the 200mph mark. We brought you news of this feat, which undoubtedly was a major accomplishment in Chevy performance history, and even brought you the back details on some of the struggles the team endured to accomplish their goal. Not surprisingly, this was also the same Camaro ZL1 to break into the 10-second range for the quarter mile.

This list of potent Chevy-powered vehicles is by far complete, with dozens of cars qualifying. But with The Block’s current top five looking like this, we can only imagine what the mind-set of building record-breaking Chevys will bring in the future.
