Video: Coal-Rolling Duramax Repeatedly Annihilates Tires

While we don’t traditionally showcase the antics of diesel owners or their vehicles, we couldn’t help but be determined to do so when we came across this band of videos. It’s widely known that the bottom-of-the-barrel, diesel-powered vehicles produce gobs of stump-pulling power.

What nobody is really prepared for is watching a mildly-tuned Duramax diesel shredding tires like a Pro Stock Funny Car and following that up with a drift that can put the efforts of Ken Block to shame.

In our case, that’s exactly what happens. From our best guess, since this Duramax is sporting the first-generation front end, it’s an LB7 equipped Duramax, which means it produced 300hp and 520 pounds of twist in stock trim.

The Duramax Diesel hasn’t changed much since its first introduction to the marketplace in 2001 –  a culmination of Isuzu and GM development. The Duramax has achieved numerous awards including, “Best of What’s New Award” in 2000 by Popular Science Magazine and was also chosen by Ward’s Magazine as one of the “Ten Best Engines in the World” for 2001 and 2002.

Not stopping there, the engine also allowed the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty Pick-Up Truck to receive Motor Trend Magazine’s “2001 Truck of The Year Award.” Yes, the Duramax is that impressive.

The Duramax is more impressive, too. Add in an easy, plug-n-play tune from any number of aftermarket manufacturers that specialize in diesels and you’ve got yourself an instant hot rod with anywhere between 50-130 extra horsepower. Torque? Yeah, close to quadruple digits. Albeit, with a 6- or 8-foot bed. Oh yeah, and better fuel economy than any hyper-miling Toyota Camry. Of course, saving greenbacks at the pump isn’t what this industry is all about. It’s about rolling coal out of the tail pipe and shredding those tires!

Make sure to check out the other three videos of this crewcab longbed Duramax showing us all how its done.
