A couple of years back, we did a full-length feature on Brett Deutsch’s Duramax-powered 1969 C10 pickup. This really allowed us an opportunity to explore the car in great detail, and while the power is beyond impressive the craftsmanship and cleanliness of the vehicle is as equally impressive for a vehicle that lives on the 1320.
In our previous interview, Deutsch explained, “My dad started Deutsch’s Truck and Diesel Repair when I was 2 years old and I have been around diesels ever since. I knew when the time was right I wanted to put a Duramax in my truck. I found a guy selling a Workhorse bus chassis with the Duramax / Allison in it. The bus had zero miles on it because the company went bankrupt before they put a cab on it. I paid the same for the bus as what I sold my 383 stroker motor for.”
When we first reported on this truck, it was producing around 1,100 horsepower to the rear tires, and had a best run at 8.81 at 158 mph in the quarter mile. As you can see in this video update, it ran an 8.62 at 161.25mph. While we can’t currently confirm this, the individual who posted the video mentioned that a 161.25 mph pass was a new class record! So if that’s the case, we wish the Deutsch team a big congratulations and continued success.
