For most of us, we are in the diesel industry because we really enjoy diesels. They are completely different than a gas engine and either you like them or you don’t.
So, we buy our rigs and within a short period of time we start spending a little extra money on them to make them the way we want. Now, that can be tinting the windows, lifting the truck, adding a gooseneck receiver, putting more ponies under the hood or any number of modifications. In fact, a truck is probably one of the most diverse vehicles on the market.
But if you are into sled pulling or drag racing, then you may want to take notice of potential money that you aren’t making. Diesels aren’t cheap. Anyone reading this already knows that. The diesel aftermarket is probably pretty comparable to modifying high-end luxury vehicles. Everything costs an arm and a leg. So, if you are dumping a bunch of money in your rig, then taking it out on the weekends to the drag strip or sled track, you may be leaving some money on the table.
Many racing organizations have contingency programs. Not familiar with that, no problem. Basically, a contingency program is a program where specific manufacturers agree to pay out X dollars to people running their decals with or without their parts on the vehicle.

Now these programs vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and racing organization to organization. So, you cannot just assume that if one has it, they all do and/or if one pays X dollars then they all will.

One company for example, AIRAID is the official intake of the NHRDA (National Hot Rod Diesel Association) and they are participating in the NHRDA contingency program. So, if you are running their logos and end up on the podium, then you can qualify for the contingency program. Airaid will actually pay out the maximum amount if you are running their product and their logos (assuming no competiting intake company’s logo’s are on the vehicle). But they will, also, pay out 50 percent if you aren’t running their product but you are running their logo!
Now the cool thing about AIRAID, is they understand that racers generally don’t like to run a filter because it hurts performance. So, this year, they actually released a new race filter that is really just a screen to keep out the big stuff but it won’t hurt the flow at all.
Now, according to AIRAID, “Many racers have already taken advantage of AIRAID’s winning edge. In fact, AIRAID has paid out thousands of dollars in contingency winnings to class winners already this season.”
With the season only about half way over, there is nothing stopping you from doing a little research into these programs. In fact, many of our partners offer these types of programs.
So, make sure you aren’t leaving money on the table and choose to add a few stickers. Of better yet, if you are looking to upgrade your products, then consider the companies that reward you for running their stuff.
