Imagine five years of nonstop full-power dyno pulls and brutal dragstrip passes. That level of extreme mechanical torture usually leaves drivetrain parts shattered across the asphalt. Kicking off the next phase of the Quad Cab rebuild, the crew at Firepunk LLC pulled its legendary race truck into the shop to assess the actual damage. Tearing down a proven machine offers a rare glimpse into exactly how heavily modified diesel components survive under massive stress.

Fueling The Quad Cab Rebuild

Protecting those expensive engine parts begins with proper vibration management. Pushing massive volume through a billet rail creates intense harmonics that easily destroy rigid plumbing. Lavon explained: “And if you don’t run the Cummins line dampers on your injection lines, you risk cracking an injection line.” Adding those important dampers sees to it that there’s a maximum flow without compromising street reliability. Afterward, the team installed bolt-on traction bar brackets before sending the raw chassis out for sandblasting.

Loading The Fresh Chassis

When the fresh frame rolled back from the paint booth, the assembly process finally began. Dropping the massive Cummins block between the coated rails instantly transformed the bare metal skeleton into a rolling chassis. Looking for a clever track advantage, the builders installed a custom drain system to legally run the air conditioning while sitting in the staging lanes. This unique setup totally prevents condensation from dripping onto the racing surface.

Inspecting The Abused Transmission

Wrenching on the drivetrain revealed the true toll of endless track abuse. A quick teardown of the old gearbox gave mechanics a clear look at the internal clutches. Surprisingly, the heavily beaten forward and direct components looked practically brand-new despite enduring massive horsepower. Lavon noted: “Second gear band is the only one that really shows any kind of significant wear.” Replacing that burnt friction material and applying fresh paint to the outer case quickly readied the proven transmission for final track installation.

Perfecting The Final Details

Wrenching on a legendary race truck means finally fixing those old, hacked-up modifications. Instead of leaving a gaping hole in the cowl like they did back in 2015, the crew actually welded a dedicated steel box into the firewall to clear that massive deck plate motor. Going the extra mile with a full wire tuck ensures this Quad Cab rebuild looks just as good as it runs. Getting this proven dragster bolted back together guarantees another exciting summer of absolutely brutal track passes.
