You’ve always wanted a tank. You’re stuck in a traffic jam with no end in sight, thousands of motionless cars between you and home, and you think to yourself “If only I had a tank, this wouldn’t be a problem.” But owning an actual military-grade armored assault weapon is prohibitively expensive, and unless you have certain permits, often illegal. But you still want a tank, and this may be the next-best thing.
This 2005 Dodge Ram 2500on eBay has traded in its rubber tires for tank tracks, which are powered by the venerable 5.9 liter Cummins diesel engine. But gone is the typical frame, replaced by the chassis of a Tucker Sno-Cat 442, a purpose-built snow machine used to traverse regions of the Arctic Circle and Antarctica. It’s as close to street-legal tank as you’re ever going to get.
Behind the 5.9-liter Cummins is a beefier 47RE transmission sending all the dieselicious torque to the tank treads. The motor breathes easier thanks to a SMB intake and MBRP exhaust system and amazingly enough, this creation rides around on an air suspension. That means you won’t feel much as you literally roll over the miles of traffic ahead of you. It even has seats in the bed for any passengers brave enough to sit back there.
In all seriousness, this is a vehicle that probably can’t even get up to highway speeds, with the eBay ad stating it has no problem holding 25 MPH in the snow. But we can’t imagine it going any faster than that, Cummins engine or not, which means you should plan on purchasing this as an off-road-only toy. At $49,500, it’s still way cheaper than an actual tank, and probably just as much fun.
