Ringing in this past August weekend was the NHRDA and the JB’s Canadian Diesel Shootout in Edmonton, Alberta at the beautiful Castrol Raceway. This year there was plenty of diesel power action!
The Hot Shot’s Secret Diesel Drag Racing Series will took to the track and lit up the quarter mile in Edmonton, Alberta. Competitors came from all over Western Canada and the US, racing in Top Diesel, Pro Stock, Pro Street, Super Street, 10.90 Index, Super Diesel, Sportsman, Hot Rod Semi, and Big Rig Bracket.
The event also featured a giant vendor row, a dyno competition, and a burnout contest. Spectators from all around had plenty to watch all day as NHRDA kept the action coming.
Very impressive trucks from all areas came to race, and they brought their “a-game”. Sportsman class and Super Diesel was full tilt come high noon but it was Steven Grunke that took the win in Sportsman and Michael Aries getting the cup in Super Diesel after a Verlon Southwick break out.
Kevin Douglas took the win in Pro Stock today over Brian Spooner after some problems on the starting line as soon as the lights dropped. We hope Brian gets that machine going because it is a wild looking truck.
Chris Buhidar extended his points lead in Super Street class after taking down the Edmonton native Matt Benderidous with a 9.60 at 150 mph. Phillip Franklin better be ready come World Finals, it’s going to be another race to the title again this year.
Hot Rod Semi’s Gord Cooper attempting another record breaking elapsed time and mph but came up short but still left with a win. Cooper ended his day with an 11.60 at 118.42 mph. Dave Stewart upset the NHRDA big rig as well with a hole shot victory taking the win in Big Rig Bracket.
Pro Street final consisted of Ryan Phaff and Donovan Harris with Harris taking the win with a crushing 8.62 at 165.50 mph. Ultimate Callout Challenge competitor Harris with Armor Diesel is figuring that rig out and it’s showing.
Stay tuned for the upcoming events from the NHRDA as the World Finals are coming up September 30 – October 1 in Ennis, Texas.
