Video: Diesel Brothers Episode Four Recap

TV drama, big honkin’ diesels, and women wearing fake beards – it’s all in a good week’s work as Diesel Brothers aired Episode Four this week. Following on the heels of the previous episode, Heavy D and his band of brothers are hard at work making the F-650 come together for the giveaway. It came to a literal grinding halt the last time we saw it, as the front wheels had locked up and refused to move. After pulling the hub off, a broken wheel bearing is found and with no replacements on hand, Heavy D makes the hard decision to bring in the Mega Ram Runner and have one of its hubs removed to make the F-650 roll again.

A busted wheel bearing causes the F-650 to cease movement.

Yet deconstructing the Mega Ram Runner gives Heavy D a great idea. After admiring the machismo of the truck, it dawns on him that people nationwide would love to have such a vehicle of their own, just done on a smaller scale: the Mini Mega Ram Runner, if you will. To that end, he orders the purchase of a crew cab 2014 EcoDiesel Ram 1500. The plan is to give the truck wider fenders, bigger tires, a lift kit, new front end styling, and cement gray paint to make it look just like its big brother.

The EcoDiesel 1500 comes to the shop looking stock, but it will leave looking amazing.

The EcoDiesel is torn down and sent to the paint booth to get its signature gray paint job. A BDS Suspension kit complete with Fox coilovers shows up, and leaves the mechanics stumped as they have to follow a manual to install it; apparently, the Diesel Brothers way entails custom-made suspension done by instinct instead of written instruction, so a mass-produced kit is no good. So the team goes for the tried and true one-off approach while still using the BDS kit.

Meanwhile, the F-650 is out at paint getting a brilliant orange as its final step. The broken hub has been addressed, but a new wrinkle comes as the engine is started and nothing happens when the shifter goes through the gears. The transmission gets yanked out, and it’s discovered that the clutch packs had worn through all of the abrasive material that makes them engage the gears. New clutch packs go in, and the transmission is reinstalled.

The EcoDiesel is getting its wheels and tires put on, and the 37-inch mud-terrains weren’t doing the truck justice in Heavy D’s eyes. He opts instead for 40-inch tires, which have trouble clearing the body, so out comes the sawzall to cleave off metal. The team welds up the gaping holes in the cabin and makes the fenders look normal once again, and then take the truck out to be test-driven by interested buyers and also sell the idea of mass-producing the Mini Mega Ram Runner.

The verdict? The MMRR is a resounding success. It finds a new home as a buyer steps forward with $75,000, making for a $13,500 profit. Elsewhere, the F-650 goes balls to the wall as it gets in front of 200 tons of locomotive cars and proceeds to tow it several feet. Mind you, there was still an engine at the front of this train, so that may have provided a little help, but for all intents and purposes, the F-650 gets to live its 15 minutes of fame in all-American style.

We can only imagine what the next installment of Diesel Brothers holds. Diesels in space? Who knows. But we’ll keep watching, ’cause we can’t stop laughing.
