If it’s got a diesel and it’s pushing the boundaries, chances are it’s got the mark of the Diesel Brothers. Heavy D and Diesel Dave are back once again in Episode 7, where the hot topic of the day is the (at the time) forthcoming 2015 SEMA Show. You all know the SEMA Show, right? In case you don’t, here’s a quick description: Las Vegas, hundreds of thousands of attendees, and some of the most eye-popping, jaw-dropping builds ever seen on planet Earth. That is the SEMA Show.
So how does a shop like Sparks Motors, already well-known for its outrageousness, go another rung higher? That’s a question for Heavy D, as he and Red Beard head out to the junkyard and find a Chevrolet Kodiak. The Kodiak (and its GMC sibling, the TopKick) were medium-duty diesel trucks made from 1980 to 2009, undergoing three generations and ending with a 6.6-liter Duramax V8. The one found by Heavy D is of that last generation, with just the hood and front fascia missing, going by first impressions.
Purchased for $6,500, the Chevy is hauled away to Stretch My Truck, owned by Brian Wood. Heavy D lays out the plan as he sees it: cut up the frame and body, insert a panel van midsection, install a large flatbed, new drivetrain, and some new lights and bumpers, and voila! Heavy D has himself one hell of a SEMA truck. The Kodiak is rolled off of the trailer, and Heavy D and Diesel Dave ship off to go see a good friend: Tanner Godfrey.

A local adrenaline junkie has this Tucker Sno-Cat that he wants totally revamped. Are the Diesel Brothers up to the job?
Godfrey is a world-record-setting “adrenaline junkie,” according to Heavy D. Godfrey loves the UTV lifestyle, but he has a taste for diesels as well. This is why he invited the Diesel Brothers over to his estate to look at a Tucker Sno-Cat. The Sno-Cat is a snow-going vehicle, with a heritage dating back to early 20th-century Antarctic expeditions; and yes, you guessed it, they’re diesel-powered.
At first sight, Heavy D is tickled pink. “I love snow vehicles,” he tells us. Godfrey tells Heavy D that he wants the Sno-Cat to be “the baddest machine on the mountain, to be able to go wherever we want to go and have our logo on it.” The part that almost sours the plan is that Godfrey needs the Sno-Cat done within a week, as he wants to go to a snow event with it. Nevertheless, Heavy D agrees to the terms and loads up the Sno-Cat. For this build, Heavy D envisions losing the old body, swapping it with a 2005 Dodge Ram and a Cummins motor, reinforcing the frame, installing heavy-duty axles, adding new tracks, and calling it a day.

Heavy D gives up on the Kodiak in favor of an F-550 converted to six-wheel-drive and steering. Talk about awesome!
Back from SMT, the Kodiak body isn’t thrilling Heavy D. In fact, he finds it downright disappointing and declares it unfit for SEMA. He all but scraps the idea in favor of an F-550 sitting on the backlot, which was a previous project that a client backed out on. But Heavy D sees new life in the vehicle, and sets off to find it. The new vision is to have the F-550 become a six-wheel-drive with six-wheel steering, a dune buggy parked on the flatbed (which now has speakers), a refreshed paint scheme in the style of a Ford Raptor, and LED lights for the finishing touches.
