Mini-Feature: Artie Maupin’s 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Everyone dreams of turning their truck into the ultimate machine. Some people accomplish it, some people have to enjoy it from the sidelines, but no matter what happens enjoying the diesel community is what it is all about.

We caught up with Artie Maupin to talk to him about his 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 and see where the dream of drag racing came from and the parts that help him along the way. “I had originally a 2001 Ram that wasn’t fit for horsepower and after long thought, it was time for a new rig,” Maupin said. “I met a guy my first year at Scheid Diesel Extravaganza and loved the truck long story short I bought the truck from him about a year later and now we are very good friends.”

Growing up in a drag race family it was only a matter of time until Maupin got a truck. He follows the ODSS (Outlaw Diesel Super Series) drag racing series and NHRDA Events while also racing at local events.

Maupin’s truck may look clean, but it can still get down the track in a hurry. “BD Diesel has helped me by giving me the opportunity to run their parts through the sponsorship program,” Maupin explained. “With the help of a really good friend, Andrew Clark, we got the BD R1000 Twin Turbo Kit installed and started to see improvements right away. I have seen an extreme drop in EGTs these turbos move a lot of air and keep everything cooled. I make, wastegated, around 85 psi of boost and it cleans the smoke up almost completely.”

With the help of a friend Maupin was able to get the turbo kit installed, which he immediately saw performance improvements.

How fast can he get down the track? Maupin let us know, “My fastest 1/8th mile time was a 7.50 at 92.32 mph and fastest 1/4-mile was 12.18 at around 112 mph. I do have a max effort tune from Firepunk Diesel where its absolute max power with a lot of the torque pulled out due to the fact that I’m still currently running a factory bottom end and I’m not trying to chance throwing a connecting rod through the block.”

The red truck is known at the track, it is often referred to the cleanest truck at the track.

A project is never truly complete and Maupin still has plans for the truck this year. “This winter I plan on doing the necessary modifications to be able to turn it all the way up and see if we can’t get down in the 6’s,” he said. We are sure the build will continue and the truck will continue to get faster.

Stay tuned for a full-length feature on the truck. Do you think you could take this truck down the track? Tell us in the comments below!
