Welcome back to Diesels On The Web, where we look around the internet for what’s cooking with regard to diesel. From general topics to videos to forums and more, we invite you to get a quick peek at how diesel showed up on the information superhighway this week.
Over on /r/diesel, a user named contents_under_psi stirred the pot this week. He was miffed at the recent announcement put out by Ram, boasting about the 2018 Ram 3500 achieving 930 lb-ft of torque.
“I hate that Ram does nothing but go for the low-hanging fruit of the torque crown,” his title read. The following rant, as you can imagine, got a lot of people talking.

Redditors were debating the real importance of the Cummins reaching 930 lb-ft of torque over on /r/diesel. For some, the new pinnacle of torque was an exaggerated and ultimately pointless achievement, since they valued reliability over recognition.
“In this modern war of torque against Ram, Ford, and GM, I feel like Ram is always going for the low-hanging fruit,” complained contents_under_psi. “They’re constantly getting beat by Ford in testing on uphill climbs, and with the release of the 2018 Ram, [you can] expect more of the same.”
Fellow user horses_fart_on_me made a valid point: numbers should take second place to reliability. “None of those numbers mean much to guys who buy their trucks to make a living with,” he said. “I don’t worry about who can tow a load up a grade faster. If I get to the top with more diesel still in my tank, then I keep more of my money in my pocket, and I win the game. They [should] stay focused on making a reliable diesel that I can use to make a living.”
Jones Group Demolition was spotlighted by daily_construction. This video depicted a trio of excavators combining forces to bring down a two-story structure. It looks like an unfinished skyway to the nearby derelict building, but who cares? It’s all about the destruction, baby!
Dynomite Diesel Products got shared on strictlycummins. Here, we see a 3rd-gen Cummins starting up and idling, and it’s a real doozy. An oversized CP3 pump pulley, custom-made air-to-water intercooler, Mishimoto radiator, and some other goodies are on display here, and it makes us want to see more. We’ll have to keep an eye out for where this truck pops up next.
Mud and trucks go together like macaroni and cheese. This Super Duty got into the soupy stuff at a work site, and had to plow its way out. He made it out just fine, though.
