SEMA 2019: BDS’s 2020 Ford F-350 “Go Beyond” Build

Overlanding builds took over the 2019 SEMA Show. Reflecting on the growing trend of enthusiasts who love to mix camping with off-roading, aftermarket companies wanted to show what they have cooking for the market segment. For their part, BDS Suspension had a build in the Ford booth. It was a 2020 F-350 called “Go Beyond.”

We spoke with Carter Reed to get the inside scoop on the truck and what it took to get it ready. “We’re stoked to have Go Beyond featured here in the Ford booth,” he said. “We gave this truck one of our lift kits, some fiberglass fenders, a service box in the back, and 40-inch tires all around.”

The Go Beyond F-350 set the bar for full-size overlanding builds at SEMA 2019.

On any overland build, the gear has to have a place to call home. As Reed explained, “We went with a Knapheide service box instead of a rack system like on other builds. We’re really happy how it all came together, and it makes this truck ready for adventure.”

Within the service box, the BDS team inserted multiple storage boxes for gear and tools. “We used a Cargoglide CG-2200 XL that stores all the essentials,” said Reed. “It slides out a full eight feet and holds 2,200 pounds of stuff. The back also has drop slides from MSA for the Dometic fridge. We even fitted a full-size spare tire in there, as well as a gas grill.”

The Super Duty touts BDS’s four-inch lift kit, among other things. “Go Beyond features our four-inch radius arm kit with Fox 2.5-inch-diameter coilover shocks,” said Reed. “These shocks feature DSC [Dual Speed Compression] adjustment, and the whole kit is an off-the-shelf product that we sell. It’s the same one you’ll find in our store.”

“We also installed ADD’s Stealth Fighter front bumper, Rigid Industries lighting, FiberwerX fenders, and a storage rack with the works – fire extinguisher, shovel, Hi-Lift jack, awning, and a James Baroud tent,” continued Reed. “The box has all kinds of electronics and a power inverter.”

The main draw of this BDS build was the Knapheide service box, storing everything from tools to tent to cooking essentials.

Under the hood, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke does the heavy lifting, along with a little help from Banks Power. “We kicked it up with a Banks Derringer and iDash setup,” said Reed. “So we have all the monitoring and extra power we need. I think it’s about 60 more horsepower and 100 more pound-feet of torque. This thing is a rocket, even on the 40-inch tires!”

Meanwhile, the paint showcases a special appreciation for earthy tones that speaks to off-roading. “When we got the truck, it was done up in Agate Black, which was a factory color,” commented Reed. “We wanted to do something with the paint that showed more of an overland style. That’s why we used another Ford paint, called Chroma Elite Copper, with speckling similar to the black paint.”

Without a doubt, the BDS Go Beyond F-350 went above and beyond to deliver an overland beast at the SEMA Show. Be sure to check out more on BDS’s suspension systems and components by visiting its website and Facebook page.
