Day two of the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza kicked off today in Terre Haute, Indiana. The day featured many of the same events as the prior day, but with the addition of drag racing with Crossroads Dragway would be the host for the day’s round.
Qualifying began in the late morning, just as the mile long line of diesel enthusiasts inched forward into the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. The Outlaw Diesel Super Series would be running ET bracket, 7.70 index, 6.70 index, Pro Street, Semi Truck, and Pro Dragster classes at Saturday’s events. Some of the classes would only be running qualifying rounds Saturday to set the field for Sunday’s main event.

The highlight of the day’s racing action was the Pro Dragsters. These vehicles would need authorities to stop traffic at the far end of the drag strip as they needed just a little bit more room to slow down. The Scheid Diesel dragster piloted by Jared Jones that had crashed three weeks prior was back up and running. They made a pass down the track that seemed like a rocket being shot.

The ET bracket races are always a blast to watch as you do not know what you are going to see, and this year we saw a 5-ton military vehicle hit the track. The vehicle in the first round won due to the competing driving red lighting. It was not so lucky in the next round, but was still something great for the fans in the stands to enjoy.
In addition to the Semi trucks showing off doing an 8-tire burnout, the 7.70 index class raced all rounds. We were lucky enough to catch up with BD Diesel sponsored driver, Artie Maupin, to see what he could do on the track. He jumped from a first round qualifying position of 25th to the 1st place position on his final run, heading down the track at 7.701. The truck would continue to run great all night and allowed Maupin to take home a third-place finish in his first Scheid Diesel Extravaganze event.

If watching trucks battle down the track wasn’t you thing, the show still had plenty of other action for you to check out. The show-n-shine featured a record-breaking 123 trucks. They were parked in tight and looking good. Many of the same vehicles from Friday made it out for the show, but there was still a great mix of new vehicles to see.
