SEMA 2016: Chevrolet Goes BIG With Concept Trucks

The SEMA Show – just like everything else in Las Vegas, you either go big, or you go home. Chevrolet took that sentiment to heart, rolling out not one, not two, but four distinct truck concepts onto its massive carpeted display in the Central Hall.

From the mighty three-quarter-tons the peppy midsizes, there was something for every truck lover out there to drool over at this unveiling. Let’s take a closer look at the pickups that could one day make it to production!

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition Concept

Big, bold, blue, and beautiful – these were the words that came to mind when we first laid eyes on this Duramax concept. Designed as a machine that could take on the rigors of the Frontier State wilderness, the 2500HD Alaskan Edition concept was equal parts rugged and respectable.

The truck came complete with a massive snow plow (complete with raging bear graphic), smoked amber roof marker lights, auxiliary forward-facing lights, and other emergency equipment. The Alaskan Edition was just the sort of concept that could be not only aesthetically pleasing, but functionally so as well.

The blue and silver exterior of the Alaskan Edition 2500HD gave it a cool effect to match with its aggressive intentions.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Carhartt Concept

We covered the Carhartt concept when it broke the week prior to SEMA, and now we have finally seen it in person. We can only say that the pictures do not do it justice, as this truck was one of the most amazing ones seen at the SEMA Show.

The Carhartt name conjures up images of rugged yet comfortable (dare we say, fashionable?) gear that outdoor enthusiasts have trusted since the late 19th century. From the worksite to the campsite, it’s one of the premier brands keeping folks warm and happy. Pairing it with a diesel truck was one of the smartest moves Chevrolet has made in recent years, and going by the reaction both inside and outside of SEMA, this concept is almost guaranteed to hit production.

The Carhartt Edition 2500HD uses materials found on the iconic brand's clothing, such as the brown duck cloth seen here in its interior accents and bed cover.

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Desert Concept

To give the half-ton drivers out there something to talk about, Chevrolet debuted the Silverado 1500 High Desert concept. Unlike the three-quarter-ton concepts, this one was confirmed to be rolling out into dealerships soon.

The High Desert had a Slate Blue paint job combined with anodized bronze accents to give it a high-class touch. Inside, it had brown nappa leather in various spots, along with silver applique and High Country embroidery. The High Country was the optimal choice for Chevy enthusiasts who wanted to drive and feel top-notch while out and about.

The High Desert Silverado is one high-class automobile.

2017 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Hurley Concept

The midsize market segment is often where the fun can be found. It is here where the young adults and novice truck buyers look first to see what is out there, and with the Colorado Z71 Hurley concept, the people have a zesty and youthful option to consider.

Hurley is a brand well-known here in Southern California, where surf and sun go hand in hand. To that end, the Hurley concept goes for a beach-like feel, with its Seafoam Green exterior, Ventiprene bimini bed cover, Sand Dune and Khaki Green interior accents, and yes, a snorkel intake. The Z71 designation makes it a little more off-road-y, with lifted suspension and all-terrain tires. We could definitely see this truck getting driven around the beaches of SoCal, though other color options might be more appealing.

All-terrain tires, a Thule rack, Ventiprene bimini bed cover, and a snorkel – the Hurley Edition Colorado is the beachgoer's dream truck!
