PRI 2017 – the sights, the smells, and the sounds are here in force. Adding to the glitz and glamour is XDP. Anthony Reams, XDP’s Wholesale Accounts Manager, brought out his famous Dodge Ram drag racing truck to the show, and the world was better for it.
Speaking with Reams, we got the skinny on what makes it a force to be reckoned with on the track. “My truck has a D&J Enforcer engine, which is a 6.7-liter Cummins,” he said. “It has a two-stage water injection system, spraying water in eight different spots in the intake. Since the engine relies completely on water for cooling, I have an AutoMeter shift light that tells me if a cylinder has reached 1,900 degrees Fahrenheit. I’ll abort the run if it reaches that high, since that indicates a malfunction.”
Tied to the Cummins is a Firepunk transmission with a high-performance torque converter. Speaking of which, Reams commented, “This year, the most consistent thing I’ve found has been all six converter bolts shearing off. A 3,000-horsepower, Firepunk-tuned engine will find all sorts of failure points!”
Reams has his hopes up for 2018, as well he should. “2018 has no plan set in stone just yet,” he said. “There could be another vehicle added to the team, and be even longer, lighter, and faster. Keep a look out for some cool stuff from the XDP race team!”
And keep an eye out we shall. In the meantime, feel free to head over to the XDP website and find great products for your performance diesel truck.
