SEMA 2015: BD Diesel’s New 6.0L Tap Shifters, Diff Covers, Manifold

Performance diesel enthusiasts certainly know (or should know) the name BD Diesel Performance. From the ‘Big Three’ truck manufacturers to Jeeps, RVs and other commercial-type vehicles, BD has a whole catalog of engine, drivetrain, suspension, and exhaust systems, as well as a number of other accessories. During our visit at SEMA, we got a small look at this vast collection of products, including shifters, differential covers, turbochargers, and more.

BD markets a slick Tap Shifter that allows one to access all of the transmissions gears’ with the tap of a finger, while also controlling the lock-up clutch in fourth and fifth gear (on the 6.4-liter Ford engine) and manage overdrive control in town or while towing. The unit also works well with engine retarders. The unit, which to date has been available for the 6.4, is now coming to market for the 6.0-liter Ford diesel, satisfying a whole new crop of customers. The shifter is a Ford OE-style lever, and has the steering wheel harness with the factory connections and a mini, disable gear selection display.

We had a big demand when we released the 6.4 version, and everyone asked where the 6.0 version is, so we’re bringing that to market. – Brian Roth, BD Diesel Performance

“We had a big demand when we released the 6.4 version, and everyone asked where the 6.0 version is, so we’re bringing that to market. It works great with an exhaust brake, and we’re selling a lot of them,” says BD’s Brian Roth.

BD also turned their focus to differential covers, and Roth shares that the benefit to its new covers are that they’re designed to keep the oil on the gears. “With a lot of covers, the oil is flipping back off and stays down, but what we’ve done — and similar to what the OE has done — is keeping the cover close to the gears so that all of the oil stays in there with the gears all the way around,” Roth explains.

BD has differential covers for Ford, GM, and Dodge truck applications.

On the exhaust manifold side, they have a new stock replacement 6.7-liter piece, complete with all of the EGR ports on it. At SEMA, the company had its HE351 turbocharger mounted up.
