SEMA 2017: Sinister Brings Out New Toys For Diesel Engines

Sinister Diesel offers a lot of really cool products for vehicles running diesel engines; at SEMA they were excited to show us products for the 7.3-liter and 6.0-liter Ford Powerstroke engines, and 6.6-liter Chevrolet Duramax engines. Primarily we looked at the high-output alternators, coolant reservoirs, and a cold-air intake.

Not only do these alternators look absolutely stunning, they do their job well. Sinister’s Michael Mitchell shared that they are designed, built, machined, and anodized in house. These alternators are really designed for performance, but they definitely help dress up the engine compartment as well.

“The billet 250-amp alternator does put out a true 250-amps,” Michael explained. They also feature an upgraded regulator over the stock alternators, and a smaller pulley to help pull the additional amperage when it’s needed.

These are a direct-fit bolt-on replacement for any 7.3-liter or 6.0-liter Powerstroke diesel motor from 1999 to 2007, so they will fit an impressive range of vehicles. Not only that, but there is no core and they use no old parts. Every piece on one of these alternators is brand new and the housings are made from aircraft grade billet aluminum.

Sinister Diesel also offers a similar 200-amp alternator that fits the same spread of vehicles. It is a true 200-amp alternator that bolts in with no modifications to the vehicle. The 200-amp alternator you see below is also powdercoated instead of anodized.

There is a definite difference between the anodized and powder-coated housings.

In addition to the alternators, Michael also told us about the ’99-’03 7.3-liter Powerstroke coolant reservoir and degas reservoir. They are fully fabricated from aluminum and, just like the alternators, are direct-fit bolt-in replacements. The same product is available for the 6.0-liter engine as well. They also have side glasses on them so you can see how full they are, and they are baffled so you don’t have to worry about sloshing.

Just like their alternators, these degas bottles look stunning. While performance is arguably more important than looks in this case, the quality of craftsmanship carries throughout and shows a pride in their products.

The cold air intake offered by Sinister Diesel for the ’11-’15 Duramax LML engines is a direct-fit replacement for the stock air intake and does not cause a check engine light. It meshes with the system already in place in your vehicle and requires zero modification for a perfect fit. They offer an un-shrouded version like what is pictured below and a different unit that is shrouded and boxed in. These are all manufactured from hand-fabricated mandrel-bent aluminum tubing.

These cold air intakes, in addition to looking cool, offer benefits like a slight boost in fuel economy.
