If you feel like trucks are getting too expensive these days, then you might want to sit down. Ford’s recent press release discussed pricing for the 2018 Super Duties, and it hinted at six-figure sums. Hoo, boy!
The star of the show is the 2018 Limited, which starts at $80,535 for a 4×4 F-250. A similar F-350 is $82,010, and a similar F-450 is $87,100. The press release spells it out clearly: “Customers who check every option box can top one out for as much as $94,455.” Factoring in taxes, and you’re easily out 100 Gs.
Ford Truck group managing marketer Todd Eckert commented on the outlandish prices for trucks. “There are heavy-duty truck customers who need Super Duty-level capability and want true luxury,” he said. “We created this new truck to answer the call for even more premium choices in the Super Duty range as we see more and more truck customers trending to more premium models.” This claim was not entirely unfounded, if the press release is true – more than 50 percent of Super Duty sales in 2017 have been high-end models (Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum), it states.
So what does a briefcase of Benjamins get you? Custom Camelback two-tone leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dark ash wood trim, and special badging. The exterior has a satin grille with chrome accents, a satin-finished tailgate applique, and quad-beam LED lights.
There’s also the usual suite of electronics – trailer reverse guidance, SYNC 3, adaptive cruise control and steering, lane-keeping alerts, forward collision warnings, etc.
