The Volkswagen diesel scandal has shaken the automotive world, but even more so the vehicle owners. They have been patiently waiting for an announcement to what will be done in regard to their car. This morning Judge Charles R. Breyer of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California has granted preliminary approval of the settlement agreement that was agreed on back in June.
VW owners will start receiving information in the mail in regards to their specific vehicle. VW will start the settlement once they are granted final approval during a court date on October 18, 2016. Vehicle owners will have waited over a year for this decision to finally come.
Volkswagen announced, “Under the proposed settlement, eligible customers will have two choices: (1) they can sell back their vehicle to Volkswagen or terminate their lease without an early termination penalty, or, (2) keep their vehicle and receive a free emissions modification, if approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Customers who select any of these options under the settlement will also receive a cash payment from Volkswagen.”
Either way, it looks like it will be a beneficial deal for VW owners. It allows owners to keep their vehicle if they want to, or sell back the vehicle and move on from this whole mess. What option will you choose? Tell us in the comments below!
