While the primary engine oil filter does most of the filtration, a bypass system filters your engine oil much deeper than the primary filter, allowing you to capture and trap the finer particles of debris within your oil. The standard bypass filter has a nominal rating of 10 microns, and the optional Amsoil filter has an absolute rating of 2 microns! That means that small, finer particles that can easily slip through the primary filter are now caught and trapped within the bypass filter.
