The summer heat is beating down on us here in California. It makes us wish all the harder that we were doing what Red Bull driver Eduard Nikolaev was up to recently.
The man was out in the far reaches of the world – the transpolar region of Murmansk, to be exact – where getting wild in a 4×4 seems like a perfect way to spend a day. Of course, Nikolaev was there to get in some seat time with his massive box of a truck, which he uses to race in some events, including the annual Dakar Rally. It was probably just a nice bonus that he was able to get the truck up in the air!
The real reason Nikolaev was out in the frozen wilderness was to test out some new tires on the rig – Continental 14.00 R20 164/160K HCs, to be exact. These tires are touted by Continental for having “extreme resistance to cuts and tears,” which is a must for any tire used in racing.
And as we see in the video, Nikolaev doesn’t go easy on the Continentals. Jumps and sharp turns are the order of the day, and it looks like they stand up to the abuse with flying colors. At some points, Nikolaev was going upwards of 85 mph in his massive, 10-ton KAMAZ!
If we ever got a chance to pilot one of these giant diesel beasts around, you can bet we wouldn’t go easy, either. Where would you drive a KAMAZ if you had the opportunity? Let us know in the comments below.
